> P910 running veeeerrrrry slow!
Bookmark topic
Hi,
Just got a second hand P910 the other week and its running very sluggish. I have done a master reset today but it hasnt helped. Any apps I have installed are on a 128mb stick, I have Sman installed and set up to shut apps on the flip closing. Compared to my p900 its well slow! As an example, when I get a txt through, the phone vibrates 3 times then the alert sound comes 4 seconds after that!!!!Somethings wrong....
The phone is unlocked and debranded from the Orange network. Will this cause any problems updating the software?I never managed to update my P900 in 2 YEARS (!), and I read on here that you cant update Orange phones....
If anyone can help me I would be very pleased!
Cheers,
TG

Jog up 1 click

Jog down 1 click

Jog Up/Down 1 click means you rotate the wheel 1 click only, do it while the flip is closed.
this will open the service menu, where you can do a reformat of the system. bear in mind though, i've not tried on my de-branded phone, and although in theory it won't, it may reset the phone to it's original state (i.e. orange branded). someone may actually know this though.....
alternatively (safer, but probably won't solve your prob!) get s-man, and see what programs are running. hopefully, you've got loads running, and that should solve it (although i doubt it!)

Hi Pikey,
I have Sman running and it closes the lot (except messages) on the flip closing.....just read a post further down the page there and a guy is having the same trouble. Seems that the P910 is just slower.....disappointed!

slower than a 910? noooooo. certainly not noticeably (if indeed it is).
From the description of your sms problem, it just sounds as though it's been well usedm, and maybe full of left-overs. do that hard reset, and things should be fine.
Certainly I never noticed a difference in speed between the 910 and 900.

From everything I've read and people I've spoken to, the P910 *is* slightly slower than the P910.
I don't think it's anything major though! When using SMAN don't kill tasks you use often like messages/contacts etc.
Otherwise you have to wait for them to load every time you start them. Remember the P910 has 32meg of RAM for apps to work with, you can afford to leave many more open than what you could on the P800/P900

Good point, yes, I remember the first firmware people complained bitterly about how slow it was, this was then rectified with later FWs.

According to Jbenchmark, the P910 is only 1.2% slower than the P900.
Your problem is elsewere.
My suggestion: Do a master reset and update the firmware.

I believe when the P900 boots up it preloads a lot of apps, while the P910 doesn't do this.
Therefore app startup time on the P910 can seem very slow.
I wasn't taking about raw speed (such that a benchmark test would show) but rather the way the phone preloads stuff, moves files around memory etc. There's a lot of different things that can cause a OS to be slow that a benchmark won't always show
