> P910i : removing read only files from phone
Bookmark topic
hi,
what software should i use to remove a "read only" 5mb avi file i have put on my P910i through using 'filemanager' from epocware.
The read only file refuse to be deleted. and the internal file managers and storage managers and wizards would only browse selected folders. not the folder where i have placed the file.
I guess being in the nature of mobile phone "read only file" from windows is treated as read only memory file on native OS file..hmm.
Need help guys.

I solved one problem like that with a full backup, a master reset (from the service menu) and a full restore.
I didn't loose anything, and as an extra bonus the phone became a bit faster.

yeah but i was wondering if I do a restore and back up NOW, it would only bring back the read only file with it... or there is some choice..?
i mean . I am able to delete any read only or what ever file by using storage wizard, but the storage wizard views only very limited folders not the complete directory...there must be some software that could let us browe and delete ( file manage ) symbian os7 files.
please let me know about possibilities of geting files off the phone ....
regards
dan

IIRC, doesn't sman have a "button" to tell it if it's read only or not?

hey guys, I just used sman.. and i got the file off my p910..!!! great!.
the sman allowed me to un check read only tag and then i just selected delete. and it is gone now.
great peice of software though i have read to use it with caution.
thanks guys...
i feel light. for now.
P.S. and people, if u are putting any file on your p910 from PC, just check if by chance it has got a read only tag, just remove it or you will end up with undeleteable heap of files .

I'm glad it was a read only problem.
Mine wasn't. The file was damaged and impossible to remove.
The only fix was to master reset the phone.

there is another solution. using the fileman from epocware, just tick on the box of the file and look for the properties. after the new window opens, you can uncheck the read only attribute and then delete it

i had used epocware filemanager if that is what you are calling "fileman".
if it is the same thing then i have found that it is unable to change the files properties from read only. and therefore was unable to delete the file. but sman works like cream!
