Right, I'm having a lot of trouble with this phone at the moment.

1. I can't sync via the P910i software I got with the phone. The SyncStation installs fine. The software installs fine other than the fact that the phone isn't picked up when it's put in the cradle. I also bought a Belkin USB Bluetooth dongle, and though I can transfer files from within the Windows Explorer interface, I still can't connect via the Sony Software. The Phone Connection Link shows up as USB - Connected, but the Bluetooth does not. I have reinstalled as the Sony helpdesk requested without my firewall/anti virus enabled, but it's still the same. Any help would be appreciated.

2. I'm looking for some decent software. Mainly, this SMAN I've been hearing so much about. Any links to decent sites (preferably legal, thank you )

3. How do you arrange programs by group? I want to group everything so it's organised the way I want. I can add new folders, but not move things to them.

4. Video Resolution. I want to convert a few movies. What resolution/bit rate should I be using for optimum results.

5. I've a Sony High Speed Pro Duo 1gig. The file manager picks it up, but the Music and Video players do not. I have formatted the stick from within the phone. Is there are particular layout I should be following? Ideally, I do want to use this phone as an MP3 player and a video player.

I think that's it for the moment. It's a great, though finicky phone. As always, all help is much appreciated.

Oh, and it's an Orange branded phone, though it is unlocked and being used with another network if that's an issue.

1. if you have another BT app running, they can conflict and cause problems. Either dump all of your other BT applications (!), or use the USB port and a cradle.

2. SEARCH! sman and it's owner posted recently, so the link should be pretty easy to find.

3. I take it you mean organise like pic apps in one folder, video in another...? you can't. You could use something like tracker or handy day to make things a bit more graphically sensible. The again, SEARCH, and you'll find links

4. look at fireegg.com . mad bob has a load of tips how to encode movies with varying programs there.

5. the music and movie players do not default to the d drive (mem stick). you have an option at the top for where to search, and once tat's set, it *should* remember, unless you switch off, or reset.

Orange branding doesn't have a lot to do with it, but if you install the SE desktop (from the SE website) then it'll replace that cr@ppy first orange menu with something a bit better....

1. That's the problem, mate. The USB dock never worked. It installs fine, but the phone isn't picked up by it. The light comes on but the software doesn't recognise it via bluetooth or USB. I only run one at a time, not both at the same (in fact I only bought a BT dongle today to see if it would work). I had K750i and W800i software on it but those apps, drivers and what not have been removed and a fresh P910i install done with zero effect.

2. Found it already. Thanks!

3. I figured out this as well. Will try those apps though.

4. Excellent. Looking at it now.

5. That doesn't seem to work. I have two folders on it. MP3 and some default folder. Do I have to specify it like D:\MP3 or just MP3 on external? I tried the latter with no effect. Is there a free MP3 player that is better and supports playlists?

Thanks in advance. Will try that Sony Desktop thing too.

the standard music player should pick up on d/media files/music/unfiled and the video on d/media files/video/unfiled.

There's been a few threads on the BT setup. honestly, after reading them, I'll stick to my cable, but they may be of some use to you.?

I really wish I could stick to the cable but it's never worked. I may just buy a cable on it's own, rather than use the Sync Station. I'll talk to Sony on Monday first though.

Bah, Sony have been f-all help with this at the moment. They just sent me a step by step guide, and at the end said, Wireless LAN cards may interfere? What crap is that? Anywho, I tried it on another PC with the same result. Now I don't think the SyncStation is faulty as I can't sync via BT either though I can send files through Windows Explorer, both ways.

sorry, when I say cable, i meant through the cabled syncstation.

Have you tried reinstalling PCsuite. it can solve a lot of things unfortunately. Dunno why SE don't sort it out. I guess they can't......

I've heard that the motorola A1000 sync software will work with our phones (and may be a bit more stable), and although I have a copy, I've not tried it yet.

I've tried reinstalling, uninstalling, reinstalling with no firewall and anti virus, installing on a PC with no internet and no go for all cases.

I just installed and tried the motorola software. It runs great! in fact, I'd go as far to say it's better than the SE software. I've just run it over the syncstation for now, and i'll try BT later, but what an improvement!

I can't believe i'm saying this about something from Motorola, but....

You can get it from the download section here: http://machman.gotdns.com/index.php
