I've just singed up to Tiscali broadband. Got my free modem from them on Friday, set it all up, but it wouldn't connect to the ISP. So phone customer services, and after 30mins on the phone, they decided that my laptop wasn't compatible with there modem. So went out on Sunday and got myself a Belkin ADSL modem and wireless router. Set that up but still won’t connect to Tiscali. Got on the phone again, 40 mins this time and they decided that it must be the BT line (thought they checked that before sending you the modem, but hey) and they’d get in touch with BT and have them check the line, saying this could take 24-48 hours. Well there 48 hours are up, and still no connection…..
Well now, I’m very close to canceling my contract with them. But before I do, has anyone else had this problem? If so how long did it take Tiscali to sort out?
If I do leave, what other ISP is there that will offer me 2mb unlimited broadband for £17.99? And would it actually work?

tiscali are pants mate, ive had the exact same problem - i'd get out while you can!
Seriously, when it does get going (if ever) it will be ridden with problems.... im with ntl at the moment - would particularly recommend them but at least my internet works (i only went through them due to a tv package deal)
If its possible in your area, id choose telewest - i was with them for 5 years through uni and they were great - i cant get it where i live now tho
Gutting!

The only thing i can suggest is speaking to a technician. He'll be able to tell you what the problem is but.... Technicians are damn hard to speak to. You can usually leave your name and number and the techy will ring you back. It's worth a shot, isn't it?

@Raaab
Aol are much, much better than they used to be. You don't have to use their browser anymore and it's one of the most stable, fast and reliable connections I've ever used.
And that's coming from a professional geek! AOL are stuck with a bit of a stigma, and it's rather unfair.

Not as far as I know. I use a lot of remote access systems and other techy software and never had any problems at all. The only real problem is that some routers don't work properly with AOL but we've discovered that most of the time, it's just a case of altering the MTU setting slightly on the router itself.
I'm not saying they're perfect, but they're certainly a lot more trouble-free than tiscali and many of the others.

Thanks for your replies.
But it's all OK now. It did turn out to be a BT problem, so can't blame Tiscali for that. Got 2MB of internet flowing through my house now
