Hi.

I own a W800... and some MP3, when I copy them from my PC to the memory stick, change their name, such as the old DOS ones where "Program Files" will be "Progra~1".

It's not related to the firmware issue since I'm on R1L002 and I suffer (now) no corruption at all.

Here is a picture:

I think that when the name is too large or with "strange" characters, sometimes, they get changed.

From my personal experience, this happens when you have characters that are not supported during the transfer. In my case then, it was the apostrophe (').

Well... these files didn't have more special characters than the others in the folder.

And, for example, I got a folder "Steely Dan"; that on the PC show as "STEELY~1", but on the phone, when browsing MP3, it show OK, displaying "Steely Dan"...

Weird...

I have a rule to not have special characters, not spaces and only lowercase letters on my files, for example billy.jean.michael.jackson.mp3 and movie.sample.dvdrip.xvid-relaser.avi

I have never had any problems with files named by this rule

I agree totally. As nice as it is to have spaces, apostrophes etc in filenames, there are just too many compatibility issues across the various different platform's and filesystems the files will be located on.

I've noticed that effect on filenames too, so I keep filenames simple as a rule. I do use spaces in song names though.

just a thought ~ are all files from same source...

or were each found individualy and renamed to make an album...

were they once an i and not a y...

I think that cross platform exchanges and ISO issues can change files to 8.3 format...

or just could be a "every 10 bug"

I don't know but... but... I cann't join Mensa so surfing forums is the next best thing...

woops, character sets too.

open CMD or Command

goto directory (original)

dir (and see if anything)

dir /b > list.txt (open in notepad and EDIT.COM and see if anything)

or

Select file name then F2 select all charaters and paste in notepad, then see by selecting each charater what value they have (charater map)
