I recently activated a GPRS account on my mobile connection. However I notice that after I received the settings from the operator, the GPRS signal indication has disappeared.
The "Data Comm. -> Preferred service" is set to "GPRS and GSM". Is there anything else I need to do? I know the GPRS signal strength in my area is OK since my friends are able to access it from their mobile. Could it be that the settings are wrong? I was able to see the signal indication before I received the settings..
Any help appreciated..

Contact your Service Provider and ask them to resend your GPRS settings OTA(Over the Air) Once they are installed, switch the phone off then back on. If the GPRS signal is still not there test a friend's phone in the same area. Thats all I can advise at the mo, Good Luck

@yeskay, you say the GPRS signal indication has dissapeared but can you actually use the service?
I vaguelly recall an issue with t-mobile some time ago where their phones didn't show the GPRS signal but, in fact, the service was fully usable

@dgilmartin
Did that already. Didn't work out..
Thanks anyway..
@masseur
No, I'm not able to browse at all. In fact when I try to open a webpage, it says "Network not available or check your internet/data settings". This message comes up almost immediately as I click on connect.

There are two settings: Data and Internet settings. Make sure you have both, select the Data account and in Internet settings select that Data account in the Connect using option. Fingers crossed

Thanks for all the replies guys..
Apparently there was a configuration mismatch at the service providers' end which resulted in this. I had to track this for 5 days before it finally got resolved. Made me realise how less the customer care folks understand about GPRS.
On a wonderful day of achievements, I could finally get the GPRS signal coverage, install OTA settings, install Opera Mini and configure GMail on POP3... Wow!
Opera Mini is so cool.. The only hindrance was that I cannot download anything using it.
GMail POP3 worked like a breeze once I configured the email settings. I'm not able to send emails though.. I get those "TTL Authentication" error messages. But I guess it's only a matter of installing one certificate as Beep mentions in another forum..
