Im new to the UK and the phones are totally differnt than america


just a quick question...I got a package where i get free insurance with my phone...what exactly does this mean

he said if i lose my phone i can get a new one...but he didnt give tell me anything else (any fine print?)

Do I have to pay again for a new phone? will I have the same phone number? Can I say I lost my phone just to get a new one???

It's not England, it's the UK...You should a refund from that school that taught you geography.
Have you read your insurance contract? If not may I suggest you call your broker or the guy who sold it to you.

to be honest you might have been ripped off! more often than not the phone insurance the phone shops try to sell you is more expensive than insurance you can find elsewhere. you should have been given a terms & conditions book when you signed up to the insurance. Look at this to find out the monthly charge for the insurance (you have probs been given 3 months free insurance as perk - what they dont tell you is that after three months it's £10 a month or something!) If it is more than £5 then it is too much so cancel it. You can cancel within 14days no questions asked as this is the 'cooling off' period required by law. Check the small print for things like the excess. Most companies when you make a claim charge you an excess which is the amount of the clain they still charge you. Anything above £50 excess is way too big (some companies have no excess!). If you have a v.expensive phone also check the limit of the payout they will make with your insurance and make sure this covers the full manufacturers rrp of the phone. Otherwise you might end up with a worse phone if you ever claimed.

Finally in the UK all the networks work together to 'block' stollen phones. So no you cant pretend to loose or have your phone stollen as there is not much point as your original phone will become unusable in the uk and you will probably have to pay an excess (as mentioned above) to be issued a replacement.

I didnt get any paper work with it since I went back a couple days later and he just changed the deal on the computer and didnt give me any description about it


all he said was "if u lose your phone come in and ill change it for you with no problems"

well in that case either go back into the shop and ask for a terms and conditions book and ask if it is free for the full term of your contract. otherwise u could just leave it and keep an eye on your bill and if they start charging you call and complain saying u were never told it would cost and you were never given all the necessary paperwork.

I would recommend that you ask for documentation concerning the insurance you have been given.

It would help if you could provide the following details:

Where did you buy your mobile from?
Which network are you with; I imagine it is Vodafone from the topic title?
Which mobile did you buy?
Which tariff are you on?

Orange, for example, have an insurance policy, which I know they used to give away free to some of their customers. I'm not sure if they still do this, but this may be what you have rather than an insurance policy from the retailer you bought the mobile from. Whoever your insurance is from I would still suggest asking for documentation.

The 14 day cancellation period apparently doesn't apply to T-Mobile.

@scotsboy, cheers for telling me that. i had a mate who told me that too but i didnt believe him at the time - ooops! how come tmobile get away with not providing the 14day cooling off period as I thought it was uk law? as i am sure none of the opperators would offer it unless they had to!

and i agree with what scotsboy said. you def need to get documentation - having an insurance policy without any documentation sounds a little worrying to me!

I am new to phones here and never had warrenties in the US

but i thought i would call them up or just go there and it would be fine
