> How can we help Esato stay alive?

@Laffen,
Okay, we have (well, at least I have) read
your post explaining the cause of the recent downtimes that ESATO is experiencing - current server cannot accomodate the high traffic that ESATO is generating.
How do you suppose can we help? Membership fees? Voluntary donations? Look for other sponsors (Maybe it's time SE put out an official AD, especially with the FREE technical support that users have been getting from here.)
Or can you suggest others where we can contribute in our own little way? Stop inserting images in your posts (I'm guilty of this one.) Reduce the number of smilies.
Am listening (and I hope so do the rest.) I would hate to see ESATO fail because we have not lifted a finger to help.

For the moment, the image insertion thing doesn't matter. I have a subscription of 160GB monthly data transfer, and are only using about 120 of them. But number of pages served increases daily.
Mostly on the WAP version. I have made a cache system for the logo pages, but most WAP pages are making request to the database and make a pressure on the CPU. I have added more memory to the box, and it is now full. I couldn't afford to add 1Gb memory cards (
really expensive) so I changed a couple of 256MB cards with 512MB. As I wrote in the page GOwin is refering to, this is only a temporary solution. I've talked to the guys at the hosting company, and they adviced me to start thinking of bying a new machine. A pitty, since the current one only are 9 months old, and I'm not finish with the outstanding debt..
I don't like the idea of membership fees. Voluntary donations would be much better. But sponsorship/advertising is what I would like most. You will probably soon se more advertisments here on Esato. If you know about some companies that are looking for advertisement (banner) space, please let me know.

if you need a new machine, how about approaching some manufacturers regarding sponsorship...Compaq or Dell etc.
maybe not the best time as we're in a downturn but it's worth a try...pm me if you need any ideas on who to contact.

Have you considered setting up mirrors to Esato.com? You have users from all corners of the globe so maybe mirroring might be a good idea. If you do consider this or if there is any other way I can personally help, let me know. I think everyone will agree that Esato is definitely something we all want to help keep healthy. I am a web developer and I have some of my own web space which I would be more than happy to contribute if it will help. Let me know if there is anything I can do in this respect (or any other). We all want to help.

I'll check around for some sponsors, and I know a guy who might be able to help out with the memory card at a good price.

Hope all goes well. I like Esato because it doesn't have any advertisments.
Although, I wouldn't mind banners above the site if its to help for the site, but I say no to Pop-ups!

I would be up for Membership fees or Voluntary donations. As long as the forum is up and running. I don't care what it takes.

I dont agree with the membership fee. The success of esato is partly due to it being free and everyone is warmly welcomed to join. Other suggestions made sounds good. Hope it turns out ok. I have a question: is it bec of too many postings in the forum thats why ur havng some problems? Would it help if there is a chat room also where u can ask directly other chatters. And just post if no 1 can answer. Just a thought.

How about small donations and when you donate some cash you get a little symbol next to your name (they do this over at b3ta.com)
I would be happy to donate cash as i have had loads of free tech support from this site.
