Okay everyone, heres the deal. got a free p800 off my brother. I belive it was originally on oranage but i cant be sure. ive tryed an o2 and an orange sim and all i get is 'enter unlock code' when i insert the sims. Is the phone sim locked or is it completly locked up?

if its asking for an unlock code then its almost certainly network locked.
blocked/barred phones don't ask for such a code, they simply just stop working

phew! thanks for that. Im gonna pick up some software off ebay that apperantly generates the unlock codes. im a but dubious about it, but its worth the £1.49 risk. If it works ill let you all know and ill see what i can do about generateing codes for people who need em

If the phone is network locked it will say insert correct sim. What yours means is that the previous owner put a pin number on the phone. Ask your brother for the code.

to double check if it is network locked, enter the following key sequence with the phone on: >*> being scroll up on the jog dial and This will take you to a hidden menu. There should be an option called service info and in there is an option called sim lock. If all the padlocks are open then the phone is unlocked, if any are closed then it is locked.

pin code is anything from 4 - 8 or 10 digits. usually the default pin is 4 digits but like me, i use a 5 digit pin. if you forget, or your brother forgets the code, then contact your network operator for it. but i see this is not your problem. your device is locked so it is the phone itself that has a code. if i can remember it correctly, the default phone lock code is 8888. if this does not work, try bringing it to a sony ericsson dealer to have it set to the default settings. i know there are also hackers online who can suggest some codes for your phone to take away the device lock but i am not familiar with them and i would not reccommend too
