> Got a W800i! Is USB a safe connection?

I'm charging the battery for the first time! Can't wait to test it.
I have a short story before the question: once my Cybershot camera got damaged, and I couldn't read the Memory Stick through it anymore. I took it to the Service Center and they told me a circuit was burned. It could be caused by unstable electrical charges (ie: my home's electric installation could not be properly... hmm, don't know the term in english, but you know what I mean, right?)
Question: is it totally safe to plug a USB cable on my brand new W800i? Or it could also damage my phone?
I'm assuming that it's not safe.

The chances of damaging anything connected to the USB port of your PC due to power fluctuations in the main power are very slim(Here I am referring to minor drops in voltage n stuff.. not getting hit by lightning or anything

The 5V power source of the USB port has to come from the PSU (Power Supply Unit) which converts AC power to a DC voltage and then it has to go through the motherboard before coming to the USB port. In my opinion if there was a power serge powerful enough to burn a memory stick in a camera that was connected to a USB port then your motherboard should have burnt too. But I don’t think that happened right?
However I’ve heard that incorrectly wired USB ports (the front panel USB connectors) some times can damage / corrupt memory sticks. (however they are rumors I’ve heard) I have heard few friends of mine complaining about such instances but I don’t know whether they were due to an incorrectly wired USB port or some other reason. So I wouldn’t worry so much about plugging in the phone to the USB port.
One more thing.. if you are experiencing power fluctuations then get your self an UPS or a power stabilizer.

Thanks for the answers! I think it's safe... It's the only way to easily sync my contacts anyway. And fir transfering MP3, I'll use a card reader for sure.
I even tried to update the firmware through USB!
