I liek to think myself as opened minded and when my ipod was sent in fore repir I though hell I can live without for a few weeks, after a week i was gaging for some portable music at the gym and what not, so when I saw jenbones selling his sony HD3 I thoguth great and bought it off him.
A few days later it came, and I thought great music player. This is where it all went wrong, after like 3 minuites I found the power switch which just annoyed the hll out of me, cause its so bloody small you cant slide the thing over. Anyway here it is on, and the 1st thing that hit me was this takes a while to load, 2nd thing was man bens got a crap music taste. anyway, this is when i discover the poor menu system, if you want to go back one you bress the up buton, and if you want to see the settings they have this tiny button ontop which is so useless its unbeliveable, as all the things in it are not clearly marked. The volume keys are also ontop which again is a big mistake as they are aloso next to this crap mode button which seems to switch between genre artist selection etc, but you jusgt keep on getting confused between these 4 eual size buttons.
The menu system on the unit is very badly desiged I was shocked how bad it was, it doesnt seem to make much logical sense, and the buttons you have to think wtf.
another annoying fact of the player is, if you dont press pause before you switch it off, it doesnt renember any of your settings it just goes right back to the begining of the track played when you 1st powered it on.
then again we have the hold and power switch next to eachother, I keep on getting confused and switching it off, ad it then restarts the music. arrrr
Now, as if it can't get much worse I decided to install the sonic stage software on my mac, guess what, its not compatible with mac, It is my fault I idnt check st, but why isnt it are sony that dumb they dont make any mac software for thir mp3 players, Yes they are, there is no mac softwarefor sony players. ok so I boot up my pc and eventually install it whcih takes ages, as after you download the package it downloads more crap onto your pc.
the interface itself is shit, I thought a 2 year old had had a go with it the gui is blocky and blue as if designed for those mentally challenged. So now i try to import my music, but no, sony dont like attrac, even though i could swear it would play these kind of files, so for the next 7 hours I have to use itunes to convert over 1300 songs into mp3 for this peice of shit.
by this time its about 2am and im pretty pissed, but to be fair it did update the player relitivly quickly after its all been transfered from mac to pc etc.
I think another imprtant thing to mention is, that if the tracks arent already named you have to lable them all yourself, or you can buy a program to do it for you, but this costs money
cons of sony player:
bad shape (rubs in your pocket and hurts your leg)
buttons feel cheap crap
slide buttons are to small
top buttons are set badly
really crap menus
little compatibility
awfull udating software
bad functions
pros- slightly smaller then 4th gen ipod...
Now, im going to buy a nice ipod shuffle to replace this thing, so if anyone wants to buy it/swap it let me know...
p.s. buy a ipod you be happy with that

I dig the Sony mp3!!
I think your reasons are a bit trivial, and your statement bout it feeling cheap... i just disagree, but its just me...
For me the plus side to it is, its got better battery life to the ipods, expandable memory and as for the sound quality.... theres noway an ipod can match up!!!
So as far as my needs for an mp3 are catered for im verrrrry happy!!!

I've heard of bad things happening with that model.
They seem to have some quality control problems worked out with their Walkman series, hardware wise. The OLED screen is much more visible than the other.

A bit trivial! these are big things, ok the hold switch who cares, but the menu systems are a death trap of blue and black.
it doesnt have expandable memory mate... also the battery life maybe better, but the player is swful, and not worth it.
Do you want to buy it?
