Well, tomorrow is the last day that the iconic Routemaster will be in regular service in London. I think it's really sad that they have been prematurely put out of service. All thanks to megalomaniac Mayor of London, Ken Livingstone, completely ignoring overwhelming public opinion, and totally contradicting several statements made by himself only a few years ago. What do you guys think?

I think it was completly wrong of the mayor to finish the route master,This bus is such an icon and a identity of london around the world.

Its such a shame as i have great childhood memories jumping and skipping off them...my old man actually slipped and fell off the back of one and broke his leg many many years ago.

what the reason to get them out from the traffic? as @axxxr wrote, it was a kind of "logo" for london.

@BobaFett

The Mayor has stated as one of his reasons for getting rid of them, that a new EU directive requires public transport to be accessible by disabled passengers (however that does not come into force for many years). Several polls have been conducted. In the general London population, between 75%-90% (depending on which poll you quote) have been in favour of keeping the Routemaster. In the same polls, approximately 70%-80% of disabled people were in favour of keeping the Routemaster.

What makes the Mayor's decision even more crazy, is that in 2004 he used taxpayers money to fully refurbish the Routemaster fleet... Money which is now wasted.

In 2001 the Mayor said: “Only some ghastly, dehumanised moron would want to get rid of the Routemaster", two years later he said: “I will save the Routemaster". Now he has arbitrarily decided to scrap them. He is ruining London, constantly, and I can't wait until he is out of office. He is simply not fit for his position.

i heard him say something to bbc london news the other week about new busses being more economic. surely dropping a brand new engine in the routemasters is cheaper than buying a new bus.

I was very surprised when I heard the news. But I can't understand why would their mayor cut the branch he's sitting on? This message was posted from a T610

Only been on one of these on a school trip to london many years ago, and I thought they were great. Like everyone is saying, it is a shame to see an iconic symbol destroyed.
