not sure how many people know about this but just in case... Apple have a store where they sell refurbished equipment.

Normally its only open on Wednesdays but from now until early Jan its open every day and worth a look if you don't neccessarily want new as the discounts look quite good

Yes!

Being in the computer trade myself I can tell you that the majority of returned goods are perfectly OK. What often happens is, people go out and buy an expensive piece of kit and then, at the end of the month, the bills come in and they start panicing over money!

So, they send their expensive piece of kit back claiming that it's faulty and demanding a refund. Out of the 168 PCs that I built and sold last year only three came back, all were demanding a refund rather than a warranty repair job.

So, we gave them their money back, thoroughly tested the components, put all of the bits into a new case and resold the PCs at a slightly discounted price. Not one of those three has come back since

And we're only a very small company, I should imagine that the likes of Apple gets hundreds of 'panic returns'.
