I also was able to unlock a T28W with an unlock code. The unlock code unlocks the phone from the network provider. After it is unlocked the phone can be used with any SIM card and any network provider.
The phone originally was with voicestream here in the US. My Dad is now using it on T-mobile in Germany.

As long as you know the operator that provided the handset then yes, a code can be given. If you don't then you need to take it to somewhere that uses hardware to unlock it.

I didn't think it was possible to unlock SE's via a code!

If people here have had it done using a code, then it sounds possible, and if that's the case how come we haven't seen a Sony Ericsson code generator like all those Nokia ones that are about?
