I have come into possession of a nokia 6680, the phone turns on fine and all features are available when no sim card is in the phone, but when I put my sim card in (tmobile) it says “sim card not valid” is this because it can only be used with 3g sims? Can it be used with non-3g sim cards.

u can put in it any kind of sim, that fone works fine on 2g system aswell. so its working only in off line mode, right? sorry for the stupid question, but is it an unlocked one? cos only locked one would pop up the message "invalid sim". what card u use in it actually?

I'm not sure if its locked (is there an easy way to find out, like with 's sevice menu?).

BTW i'm trying a tmobile sim with it.

Oh and yeah it works fine in offline mode

there is no such service menu in nokias, at least not as so easy to get in as in se fones. the only way is to put diff cards in it, i am afraid, its a locked one. there is no tricky way to unlock it, only nokia or the operator itself can fix it for u.

It might be blocked, but Nokias tend to display 'sim card registration failed' when a sim is put in and the phone is blocked.

@boba

My sister came back from lanzarote and brought the phone back with her, she said a friend brought it out to lanzarote and it wouldn’t work with their (lanzarote) sim cards and as my sister was coming back to Britain and she was staying out there my sister could have it.
But my sister is with tmobile and wondered if it could be unlocked to all networks so she can use it.

I guess the only way to see if its just locked to 3’s network would be to try a 3 sim card. And if it is then looks like it’ll be on ebay soon (unless she gets a 3 PAYG card).

i get the msg "sim not valid" when it is not inserted properly, like when i drop the phone. i have to switch off the phone and put the sim properly
try putting that sim in a phone you know is unlocked:if it works then the 6680 is locked

I'm pretty sure its locked to 3 now. Just means getting a 3 sim card.

Thanks for all your help
