hi,
my bro wants me to unlock his k700i for him.
I have davinci credits, the t28 cable etc and know what to do.
the only thing i need to know, will unlocking it delete any of his pics/ringtones etc as he has lots on there he wants to keep.
I know flashing it would, but is the unlocking just flashing a certain part of the phone etc

I'm not sure if the T28 will work to unlock but unlocking shouldn't affect files.
That's not to say a backup of all wouldn't go a miss.
you still have "Phone a Friend" and "Ask the Audiance"

Yes as beep said unlocking doesn't normally delete your files but you have to bear in mind that something might go wrong during the process, worst case scenario being that the phone won't switch on.
Only way out of that is a visit to the shop to have it sent off for a firmware flash which could easily delete everything off the phone.
Having said that, my T610 had a firmware upgrade and all my ringtones etc. were still there when I got it back, but I might have just been very lucky!

think i will just go ahead and do it.
i unlocked and de-branded a s700i with the t28 cable and davinci a while ago, just couldnt remember myself whether the unlock did clear the phone , or whether it was just after i had done the de-branding too lol
