Their icons still need a bit of improving but overall it's a great improvement in my opinion.

indeed, those icons are a bit better then the former ones. it was weird to see the same ones, in a835, e1000 and the razr. they are so childish imo

The Startac series and the V3 are the only moto's I have had but I can't say the UI put me off at all. its seems fairly logical and also very customisable, more so than SE phones (excluding the P series)
but, its always good for a manufacturer to put some freshness into their products so if this change is based on customer feedback then it can't be all bad

the motorola (current) menus are slow, wiht not much animation and are quite 2d.
thats why i love SE, they have smooth animations, 3d icons that have been well designed.

I wonder if Motorola will allow something as simple as pressing 1 for the first menu, and 9 or # for the last one... Oh, and a way of easily changing profiles/ring volume without making any noise. Perhaps they can support Vcards properly too, so you can 'send all contacts' from a Sony Ericsson to move the phonebook. (Nokia could also do the same).
The problem Motorola have always had is that they simply follow the specifications too literally. There doesn't appear to be anyone within the company that says "Sure, doing that would comply/work - but what about doing it this way to make it look nicer/work better". SE and Nokia don't have to have fancy menus, but having them vastly improves the user experience. No wonder people who own Nokia's rarely want to change, and now SE have the same loyal following.
Considering Motorola make some fantastic looking phones, and always have since the MicroTAC, StarTAC, V.3688 and then the RAZR, a decent UI could easily put them ahead of the competition. I'm always amazed that Motorola can't see that for themselves.
