Hi there

Although the SE said that:

P900 = 65k screen
P910 = 262k screen

Why is it that when you go on 'system info' on sman on both machines, sman displays clearly that there is only 65k colors on the P910.

Is Sony Ericsson lying to us? Maybe it seems brighter as the screen is better made?

its because the 256k or what ever it is is only used when displaying fill screen pictures or games etc, for normal use only 65k is used. I believe this is becuase it uses less battery power that way

Even if it shows 262k color during those operations, shouldn't sman display the hardware type? and not what is currently avaible?

I just think its just a better made screen.

SMAN will show the hardware type, so SMAN showing that there is only 65k color screen on the P910i is correct.

Plus it doesn't seem to show 262k in video/pictures. I mean it just looks the same on non video/picture mode cause the screen is pretty bright/good as it is.

@all:

I asked my SE contact about this and he said that the screen is actually 262K colors. However, the screen only goes into that mode with the Pictures application. Outside that application, the defaults screen mode is 64K colors for backward compatibility and conserving battery. Going to 262K mode is undocumented and is unlikely to be documented anytime soon.

The way SMan detects the screen depth is via a standard Symbian call that identifies the hardware characteristics of the device. Unfortunately, it looks like it'll report the characteristics in realtime and not the maximum capable as is the case with color depth.

So, in short.... SMan is correct and SE did sell you as advertised. Hope this helps.

It means that P910i is not utilizing its 262K screen in most of the time. No wonder people say 65K and 262K screen looks no much difference.
