Bookmark topic
Hi. It took me a few days to get Opera Mini working with T-Mobile here in the USA. (and a LOT of frustration) So I wanted to share my settings in case anyone is having problems getting thier K750 or W800i's Opera Mini browser working.
Let me say that I have a W800i running Opera Mini Ver. 1.1. I hope they work for whoever might need them.
Set up mobile internet (WAP) for SE Z600 using SE's configurator at
http://www.sonyericsson.com/s[....]1_1&zone=ps&lm=ps1_1&pid=10104
This will allow you to view T-zones properly, not a blank page, like you will get if you send W800i's settings to your phone. HOWEVER, once the changes below are made, if you go to the T-zones page, it will give a "web site under construction" message, because, after the manual changes your phone will look like a HTML browser to T-zones wap site. No big deal for me because I could care less about T-zones anyway

Just letting everyone know about this though. Going to other wap pages using SE's built in browser, such as "wap.yahoo.com" will display fine. And best of all, Opera Mini will work! This is one nice browser, much better than the built in browser, because you can actually view the pages! Not perfectly, but it's acceptable.
Anyway, let's get on with the manual changes through your phones menu:
Then change cofigurations manually as follows:
Settings->Connectivity->Data Comm.->Data accounts->T-Mobile GPRS->
APN = wap.voicestream.com
USERNAME = [blank]
PASSWORD = [blank]
LOGIN REQUEST = OFF
ALLOW CALLS = AUTOMATIC
IP ADDRESS = [blank]
DNS ADRESS = [blank]
AUTHENTICATION = PAP
DATA COMPRESSION = OFF
HEADER COMPR. = OFF
Settings->Connectivity->Internet Settings->Internet Profiles->T-Mobile GPRS->More->Settings->
CONNECT USING = T-Mobile GPRS
INTERNET MODE = HTTP
USE PROXY = YES
PROXY ADDRESS = 216.155.165.50
PORT NUMBER = 8080
USERNAME = [blank]
PASSWORD = [blank]
Settings->Connectivity->Internet Settings->Internet Profiles->T-Mobile GPRS->More->Advanced->Change Homepage->
NAME = T-Mobile GPRS
ADDRESS = internet2.myvoicestream.com
Hope this helps for anyone who's having difficulties.
And thanks to all you guys for all the information you have at this forum, it has really helped me out to choose the W800i I have now, and I must say, I have no regrets. A pleasure to use. No more Nokia for me!

Also forgot to add, I have the $5.99 T-moble web plan. So it dosen't look like the $20 T-mobile internet plan is necessary.

Thanks !
I had V1.0 working for couple months and its been down for couple days. Will retry with the new version. You said you get access to TZone ? I thought the W800 could not support them ?!

When I sent the WAP settings for T-Mo from SE's web site for a Z600, the T-zones page shows up fine.
If I send the settings for a W800, then it's not visible (blank page).
I'm not sure why that is.
There's not much on the t-zones page anyway. I'd rather use Opera for information, and the e-mail client that's built in to the W800 for sending/recieving emails.
Not sure if you have tried using the t-zones wap page for email uses, but it is kinda useless.

Thanks! But...

Did all exactly as you described, but Opera continues to return an error: "You need to setup your device with an internet profile (error: 11.200.43:80/)." The built-in browser doesn't let me load a single page. Email client wouldn't work too. Any ideas?
I am on T-Mobile USA 5.99/mo t-zones plan.
Thank you.

What have you got listed for your settings under settings>connectivity>data comm>data accounts?
Mine are: T-Mobile GPRS, PictureMessaging, and T-Mobile Email
Also, what have you got listed for your settings under settings>connectivity>internet settings>internet profiles?
Mine are: T-Mobile GPRS, PictureMessaging, and T-Mobile Email, with T-Mobile GPRS selected.
Lets start there and see what you have listed. It might be best to delete all of your GPRS, email, and picture messaging profiles, and go back to the SE setup page and send the GPRS (wap) settings only to your phone, as per my first post, and we'll see if we can get the built in browser, and Opera working and then set up the MMS and email.
From what your saying, the profiles for wap, have not yet been set up on your phone.
I'm assuming you have a W800 or K750?

The Opera Mini is such a great improvement over the wap browser installed with the k750/w800. What even better is the use of the smooth font option which allows for smaller text, fitting more of the page in one screen!
Also, once you get the Opera Mini working, you should try Google Local application. It's Google Maps on your phone complete with scrolling maps, satellite pictures, local searches and driving directions!!! It's a great app if you have the unlimited data plan.

Opera is a huge improvment over the built in browser for sure!
I tried using the smooth font option when I first got opera working, but the text was too small.

Regular text is OK though.
I also use the Google maps application. It is wonderful. The only problem with it is that when getting driving directions, I can enter the starting address, but when putting in the destination address, there is no way to confirm (the "more" dosen't show up above the right soft key), thus I have to exit the program at that point. So driving directions are not possible.
Could you confirm the absence of the "more" above the right soft key when entering a destination address?
Maybe this is a problem with the program? Thanks!

Thanks seguy! I have T-mobile in the US with just t-zones and Opera Mini works fantastic with my W800i.

My experience:
I followed your Sony link and Sony sent the setup to my W800i, easy.
Internet services->More->Enter address->mini.opera.com
Download Opera Mini, choose folder e.g Applications (in File Manager).
My settings was automatic, the only difference is:
Settings->Connectivity->Internet Settings->Internet Profiles->T-Mobile GPRS->More->Settings->
PROXY ADDRESS = 216.155.165.050 (yours probably a typo)
Settings->Connectivity->Internet Settings->Internet Profiles->T-Mobile GPRS->More->Advanced->Change Homepage->
ADDRESS =
http://wap.myvoicestream.com
Then, every time I tried to connect, I got the error: An unexpected error occurred. I tried your Homepage ADDRESS without luck and changed it back to
http://wap.myvoicestream.com.
After several tries it finally connected, then refused to do so afterward. The next day it connected without a hitch and have since connected flawlessly.
The only error I occasionally encounter while browsing is: Could not open connection to server (error: 14.0.43:80/). The phone sometimes runs out of memory with image intensive site tomshardware.com.
Hope this helps anyone with setup questions.
