Hmmmm I am wondering which one will be more powerful!
There are too few application for symbian phone compared to Windows mobile 5.0 phone!
So guys If you are given a choice which one will you choose again!
WM5 you can have all the .Net developing program but symbian dont have much option for it!
I am considering buying a P990i or other WM5 product!

My main concern with the WM 5 is the fact that the apps need a lot of ram and processor power.If i listen to my music, surfing the net while answering a message from Messenger and the whole thing becomes sluggish, I consider throwing money buying that device.So I know buying the p990i I won't have this kind of probs.Symbian devices ask for small resources (btw,I do all those on my p910i and it runs smoothly).

as for the P990 having "plenty of software development", well lets hope that existing developers rebuild their applications for the new platform but I am sure that is going to take time. Mind you, its also an issue with windows mobile 5 and developers are still catching up as you can read on the

I hope to get a P990 asap they are released and will be giving my opinion/comparison of both at that time but was already impressed by the P990 during my 45 minute play

@Masseur: I'm glad WM5 can do all those asks without being slugish cuz multitasking is what defines smartphones.I've had a play with a Htc Executive and was nicely impressed by it. I won't buy a p990i until next December thus allowing ppl to develop and port popular apps to the devices.

Having used a Imate JasJar and XDA Exec for the last 2 months I have been surprised by the number of inherent problems with WM5. The key ones are memory leakage (which is a double wammy as there is so little RAM in the first place) and strange behaviour when using the PowerSave option (delayed altering of incoming calls, SMS arrival causing the device to freeze, apps crashing that have open media files on the SD card, etc). Also I am not sure that there are that many WM5 compatible apps at the moment. In general I would say at a OS level even the current Symbian 7 is more stable than WM5.
The main difference between WM5 and Symbian devices is the hardware. WM5 devices seem, in general, to have more powerful hardware and very poor battery life. I wouldn't mind Symbian devices with reduced battery life but most average people (who use Se K750s with 7 day battery life) would not be happy with changing a battery every day (as on WM5 devices).

@jah, your comments are also valid and are often mentioned by windows mobile device users but yes, the hardware makes up for it but IMHO its the in-the-box applications, the direct compatibility to what we most use, i.e. windows on pc, the vast number of applications and support etc etc that keep me using WM5.
As for battery life, I've rarely found that an issue with my usage and am totally amazed by the k-jam in that respect. A full days use of phone calls, browsing on the train to work and back as well as listening to music, watching videos etc and I find the k-jam still has only used 25% of its capacity. As someone who plonks the device on charge/sync every night this makes battery life a non-issue for me
I do feel that the P990 has closed the gap with windows mobile devices to the nearest they have every been, well, except when the P800 came out and broke many of the rules for such a device.
The p990 that I played with was very very buggy and required many resets and/or pulling the battery out but the
representative acknowledged that and of course it will be better on release. Lets just hope it meets our expectations and I am certainly very open minded about is in store for us

I've not used the K-Jam but is good to hear WM5 devices can be engineered for battery life. As my old Treo 650 gave me three days usage, my Nokia 9500 gives me 2 days usage (note all my devices are left on 24hrs a day) I do find the frequent charging for the Universal a real pain. But I managed to get a spare battery so I am not worried about missing that important call/email now (well, just got to wait until my Exec is repaired).
On the subject of the P990, I am happy to wait a few months so that SE reduce the number of bugs. But given that we have new h/w (3G + WiFi), new OS (Symbian 9.1) and UI (UIQ 3) I think we are going to have fun reporting all the nasties. Just hope SE & Symbian respond a bit quicker than M$ with fixes.
