Just flashed my D750i to a W800i - works a treat.
Uninstalled all sony stuff and reinstalled the w800 drivers and Sony PC Suite.
The drivers work fine. I plug in my phone, in device manager I can see under USB controllers the Sony Ericsson W800, the MS shows up under disk drivers etc. All looks sweet. Windows 'thinks' I have a w800
But when I try to use the Sony File Transfer software (e.g. to copy themes across, can't seem to do it via the File Manager on the phone, etc). It keeps saying NOT CONNECTED.
If I click on Phone Monitor Options - it still has the profile for the D750i.
How do I get around this? How can I make this software think I have a w800 (or even think I have a d750i - i dont care so long as I can copy stuff back-n-forth, synch, etc)
Any ideas appreciated

I would have thought that the Sony Ericsson Phone Monitor would have brought up a window to setup a connection to the now new W800i mobile. Try uninstalling all the Sony Ericsson Software and re-install it. Then open the Sony Ericsson File Manager to bring up the Phone Monitor and let it recognise the phone again.

I recently did a K750i to W800i conversion and this is the first time i have connected my phone via USB and used the File Manager. It connected with the K750i profile, but to test this problem i deleted it. After a few attempts at opening the file manager i got the phone monitor to open and to connect and add my now W800i (so it worked for me).
Try opening the Sony Ericsson File Manager through the start menu, see if that makes a difference. Sometimes you have to be patient and it may seem as if it won't connect at all.
There are alternative ways in which you can access the files on your phone, through a USB bluetooth dongle (should it come to that) or you could just connect via USB to access the memory card (where the phone acts as a mass storage device), and for themes place them in the Themes folder on your memory stick
(navigate to MSSEMC\Media files\theme). Then you could move them on your phone from the memory card to your phone memory.
But you should be able to get a new connection established with your W800i and the File Manager software with the Phone Monitor.

Nope - file manager still dead. Even when opening directly. Never connects
OK so no auto contacts, but I didnt ever look at the MemStick file structure. As long as I can add my themes I can live with that (haha and I can copy direct to the mem stick as windows recognises it and mounts it as e:

)

actually this is terrible - because I need to use special software to copy the music to my phone right to be able to play it properly (i.e. by album, artist, etc)?!!?
What's that software called anyway?

you dont need special software to copy your music across. You can use disc2phone which you can download from the SE website, but this is not necessary at all. As you said, as long as you have your music structure ARTIST/ALBUM/files.mp3 then you can transfer them to ur mem stick using explorer, in your case to E:/MP3/...

just rename the phone in the phone monitor options in control panel. It doesn't detect the phone as a new device because it isn't a new phone. The sony ericsson software does additional checks because if it didn't then the old style connectors that needed a dcu-11 or dss-25 stand wouldn't detect a phone at all.
Second note, I flashed my k750 to w800 software and mine works fine. just go through all the normal usb connection troubleshooting and it should work fine.
