A friend mentioned to me that he'd read an article stating that by the 1870's all new inventions had ceased, and that in the subsequent years up until now there'd only been improvements on the old, e.g. Motor vehicles, electricity, gunpowder, etc. Does anybody know where i could source such an article, and what are your views on this statement?

The reason my friend mentioned the topic is because he's afraid of what would happen should the world's petroleum resources be exhausted.

well when it does happen it will feel like we going bk in time.

we will have to use things like solar power , hydrogen which means cars slower, technology slower and more expensive to run

i'm not looking forward to when the resouces are used up

Consider how much money is being poured into making vehicles more petroleum-efficient instead of really allocating some serious r&d funding to alternate sources of energy...
