Symbian phones
> Apps gone for good?!

I'm just about freaking out...
I downloaded a .zip -file and an extractor from my-symbian using my p900 and everything seemed to have gone ok until the phone restarted after installation.. There aren't any of the little icons (messages, apps, contacts, calendar...) in the top section and the only apps I can see are the ones installed on the memory card.
I can't do anything with the phone.. The buttons on the side don't work and I can't change any settings.Luckily I had Opera so I can atleast write this.
I deleted the files I downloaded using Stacker, but it didn't help to get the phone acting normal..
Is there anything to do?

I'm afraid they're gone... I guess you can say they are still there but the phone can't find them...
If you made a backup it's easy to restore your phone - otherwise you have to install all the programs again - make a backup

Thanks for confirming what I was afraid of.
The last time I've made a backup was a year ago. So much for that..
Could upgrading the firmware help? I haven't been at home to my computer yet so I haven't tried that.
If I format the phone, is there any way of getting all my contacts and other info from it? As they are in the phone's memory.. I couldn't locate them with Stacker.
Won't be downloading anything to the phone, if I get it back to normal..
Oh, and how can the phone not recognize the programs? I understand it's possible, but what can cause such a thing? Did the file I download have some kind of a virus in it? Beats me out..

As for me, you can solve the problem whithout make a restore.
I had the same thing on my P800.
Message, jotter... all applications seems to be deleted.
So I have reboot the phone 3 or 4 times, and after that, when the phone was on I have put off the battery...
And the applications was back!
You can test this, may be it could help you !

Thank god it's working again!
Reboot's didn't help nor did removing the battery.
I spent whole last evening backing up the phone, transferring important files to the pc and trying to get that damn SE update to work. Well, the update still doesn't work due to "incompatible Macromedia version". Finally lost my nerve after downloading the flash players several times with no success.. So, never mind the update.
Today I gave it a shot and restored the phones internal memory and it worked fine. Which to me seems a bit odd since I backed up yesterday, when the phone was already a mess, and as I restored it today everything suddenly starts working even though the data in the phone hadn't changed a bit.
