DJ Hutchison To Start UK 3G In Oct; Says It's No "Launch"
LONDON (Dow Jones)--The U.K. mobile phone operation controlled by Hutchison Whampoa Ltd. (H.HUW) will start rolling out a third-generation mobile service in coming weeks but won't describe the process as a "launch."
Spokesman Matt Peacock told Dow Jones Newswires that the company would be receiving its first batch of handsets Oct. 2 and would start a "phased rollout" shortly afterwards.
"It's a misnomer to talk about a launch," he said. "Internally we are describing it as a phased rollout, rather than a launch. It is a building process rather than a big bang."
Peacock declined to identify which of Hutchison's suppliers would make the Oct. 2 delivery.
The Hutchison 3G UK operation, to be branded as "3", is 65% owned by Hutchison Whampoa. Other stakes are held by NTT DoCoMo (DCM) with 20% and KPN Mobile NV (N.KPM) with 15%.

Yeah read about this in a cellphone magazine. As I have been saying in so many posts; UMTS is what I am waiting for.
