Well I know that there isn't long left, but I am getting tierd of waiting for the P990, and I am getting very tempted by the looks and design as well as the features of the
XDA Mini S, Qtek 9100,K-JAM
Anybody care to take a look and give their views, I have never had a Windows Mobile Device, and Im sure that Masseur will convince me to get this, but I want to get more opinions first.

get the k-jam!
seriously though, I am also curious as to which I will choose once I get the P990 in my hands, but if you don't want to wait 2 or 3 months then you can get a great alternative right now with all the features the P990 has (ok, well not the card scanning abilty I guess)
the k-jam has great battery life, a large clear screen, full and very much usable keyboard on which I can type very fast now etc etc
btw, I put Opera 8.5 on my k-jam yesterday after all the hype (I think te P990 comes with opera

, but actually I still prefer in the pocket internet explorer with SPB plus extensions

There is one or 2 things Im wondering about though, and who better to ask than Mr Windows Mobile Himself... lol.
1) Restoring the OS, as operating systems do sometomes stop working for whatever reason, is there a way to restore windows back to factory settings should anything happen, because the SEUS is a big advantage for SE mobiles. Is there anything like this on Windows based phones/PDA's, a CD or somthing?. The paople in the shop new nothing about this.
2) Is it easy to install things like codecs etc as with the PC versions of windows, i.e for playing DivX etc.
If there is a resore option and you can install codecs etc, then I think I am pretty much sold on this device.

1) yes. just do a hard reset. this fully reloads the operating system from a portion of memory that cannot be corrupted.
on the k-jam this means pressing and holding the connectivity button (top left side) and voice dial button (top right side) while pressing the stylus into the soft reset button (middle right side)
I have never had a windows mobile or pocketpc device that this failed to get the machine working on
but, if a firmware upgrade fails in the middle then yes also, there is the ability to do the firmware upgrade again from your pc
I have heard of "paperweights" being created during the update process but this is much much rarer since microsoft changed the way the firmware update is done when windows mobile 2003 came available
2) I don't install codecs because the free player that I use (
TCPMP - The Core Pocket Media Player, previously known as betaplayer) plays anything I have so far encoded. I use
pocket DVD studio which does it all in one step
there is a faq about windows media player 10 mobile
here but unfortunately I cannot access the TCPMP site from work but I believe there is codec info there too

I dont know an awefull lot about Windows Mobile so it may be a little unfair but from the Windows Mobiles I have seen I dont care for them, the P910 always won me over and Im sure the P990 will be great. Also dont forget the rumoured P1120!

yes, but people keep giving generalisations like that without giving actual reasons as to why the P series is better (for you), which really doesnt help him to make his decision
please give some specifics as to why you say one is better than the other, and in what situations etc etc, then I can at least counter those points:-) or even, maybe, agree!

not sure how much bigger the xda exec is to the xda mini, but i went from a p900 to a xda exec, at first it was very impressive but for what the p900 can do for its size and the ease of use, i soon dumped the exec for my trusty p900, even though there are lots of apps for the windows mobile platform, i seem to prefer the way UIQ does em also the exec was forever crashing when running apps, even with enough mem, a problem i never had with the p900,
maybe im forever tainted by SE's evil but the P990 is gonna be everything i need in a phone/pda in a very small package.
