I've had my S E k700i contract phone for nearly a year now & for nearly a year i've had to do without a decent ringtone due to Vodafone blocking you from using your own due to copyrights or some boll-ox.
I did read that if you upgraded your firmware the problem would be fixed or you could get round the problem by using some S E DRM software. Anyway i took my phone back to my nearest Vodafone store & explained the problem & they said they would send the phone away (which i was without for 10 days) & when i got it back everything would be fine.
When i eventually got it back nothing had changed, making me think have they actually done anything with my phone?
My contract is up next month & if Vodafone are still not letting you use your own mp3's it's fair to say i'll be off to o2 or orange whose phones do let you (me mate's have phones on these brands) & they can stick their contract where the sun doesnt shine. But i would like to resolve the problem on my k700i so i can give it to my girlfriend when i do eventually get my nice shiney new phone.
Any help would be much appreciated.

To find out what firmware version you have, push the joystick right, press star, joystick left, left again, press star, then left joystick push again. You're now in the service menu. Then go to 'service info', then 'software info', and it will show you your firmware version. It will start with something like 'R4a and be about 7 characters long.

>*<<*<* make sure you read sammy's instructions as to what to do once you get to the service menu.

Cheers for that. It reads R2N001 prgCXC125897_EU_2_C
How old is that firmware? Is that one of the 1's that the DRM software won't work on? If it is it's shocking as i explained why i needed the firmware update when i went into the shop & they made a note of it.

Have a look at the
k700/k500 Firmware Overview. It sounds like you need to update your firmware mate.
Oh and welcome to esato

Just sent the following email to their customer care team...
1. Can you please inform me when my contract is due to expire & when i am eligable to have an upgrade please (if i choose to stay with Vodafone - see below)
2. Could you please tell me how/where i can upgrade the existing firmware (R2N001) in my current phone. I need R2V001 or newer. Can i get a firmwire upgrade free by calling into any Vodafone store with a copy of my phone bill? Or alternatively tell me how i can get my k700i to use my own ringtones without the phone blocking them which is very annoying as none of my friends phones do this on other networks (which i may well join).
3. Can you please tell me why sometimes when i text someone it just says message sent but doesn't actually deliver it sometimes not until hours later or when that person rings/texts me making my original text pointless.
4. Can you tell me why when using Vodafone Live if i click on a story in News or Sport often i get a totally different story to what i selected?
5. Can you tell me why when my phone does choose the correct story quite often i am unable to scroll down & read the full story as the phone will not allow me (this happens on stories where downloading video or something is a option at the top of the story)
6. Can you tell me why on Vodafone Live the Live Football Scores no longer display on my phone what minute the goals were scored & only displays the scorer.
If you could either email me back with some answers or contact me on *********** that would be very much appreciated.
Thanks
Davey_C
Wonder if i'll get a reply as you can see above quite wazzed off with vodafone at the moment.

Here's my reply to the questions i asked from Vodafone (note how they've failed to answer a certain question (mp3 ringtones)
1. Your account is eligible for upgrade no earlier than 15/06/2006, your account
is due to expire on 15/08/2006
2. To upgrade existing firmware on your handset please contact the manufacturer
of your handset on the details below, as only the manufacturer may do this:
Sony Ericsson
1 Lakeside Road
Aerospace Centre
Farnborough
Hampshire
GU14 6XP
Customer Services: +44 (0)8705 237 237
Opening Hours: Mon-Fri, 8am-6pm and Sat 9am-5pm
3. There is a known issue with the SMS delivery on this handset and am pleased
to advise that new software for the K700i which resolves the multiple SMS issue
is available. Affected customers will be able to have a free of charge upgrade
to the new software from 27th April by taking their handset into a Vodafone
retail store who will then send the phone away to the repair agent for a
software upgrade.
4. There have been know issues with Vodafone Live! directing customers to the
wrong pages, our technicians are aware of this and are currently assessing the
issue and aim to have it rectified as soon as possible.
5. To read the story you have selected, the page must be fully loaded before you
will be able to scroll down to the bottom of the page. This may take a little
longer than normal if there is a large volume of customers trying to access the
same information.
6. There have been several queries from customers regarding the score times on
football results, unfortunately the results are provided by Sky Sports, who no
longer provide the score times only the scorer. As there have been a large
amount of queries regarding this issue we are discussing the issue with Sky.
I hope this information has been some help to you, please contact us again if
you would like to discuss any points further.
If there is anything else we can help you with, please do not hesitate to
contact us.
Yours Sincerely,
Stephanie Houghton

What a load of tosh eh! I got my k700i last Febuary so why would my contract not be up for renewal until August ??? I didn't agree to a 18 month contract when i upgraded my phone & I also got it from Singlepoint who are no more as Vodafone bought them out. I didn't sign anything when i got my k700i as i stayed on the same tariff i just upgraded my phone. I also had to pay £30 for the phone which was added to my bill. It's my understanding now that most phone contracts are 18 months if you receive a free handset but if you pay so much towards it you only have a 12 month agreement?
On the subject of ringtones they totally ducked the subject & why do i have to go to Sony Ericsson for a firmware upgrade when i got the phone from Vodafone NOT SE! & are they not contradicting themselves with point number 3 where i can have a 'free software upgrade' from April ref SMS issue but i can't have a 'free software upgrade' ref my ringtone issue now???
I'm even more mad with these people now more than ever!
