Win2000, P910i, Ms Office 2002 } all with all latest patches.

Hi

I am frankly appalled at Sony Ericsson. They go and make a FANTASTIC phone - but even after 18 months of owning the damned thing NONE of the software utilities seem to bl**dy work. If I had know it would be this bad, I would NEVER have bought my P910i.

The latest fiasco is me trying to get the "Update Service" software to work.

I have wasted countless hours on this goddamned phone and frankly I now hate both it and Sony Ericsson.

I have now tried to run the "Update Service" (having just installed from "UpdateService_Inst_2.2.11b.exe" the bloated 32MB download) and it doesnt work.

I tried it on 2 different PCs (both running Windows2000) and I even tried using a brand new stand (DSS-25) and guess what? It's the same problem it just saying "No Deskstand Connected" when quite clearly this is not true!

Yes I turned off the P910i, YES took out the SIMS card, Yes I stuck the batteries back in... and YES I re-inserted the goddam phone.

And Yes my PC knows I did because it lets me synchronise (when I insert the SIMS card first obviously).

The trouble is that when it gets to the very end of the synchronisation it too comes up with an error message
something about the synchronisation being incomplete, in a small red box.

GodDAMN it!

Why does anyone tolerate this cr*p?!!

I mean the software is all SO goddam flakey. Even the help button on the "Update Service" software doesnt work. And you can't close the window at the "No Deskstand Connected" message. You are FORCED to try again and only then hit Exit. There is nothing on the "Update Service" that even tells you which VERSION you are running! How flakey, how bl**dy amateurish can you get? It is absolutely PATHETIC.

For God's sake get a grip Sony Ericsson. Just sack your entire PC software/integration team and start again.

Ah now I feel better - but not much!

...Meanwhile can anyone help?

With thanks

God, that rant was even more vehment than the one I unleashed after tearing my own hair out trying to get this new software working! Yes, SE software is shit. Lets be honest. But this problem has been mentioned many times and it is solved by deactivating the USB connection in phone monitor. Just right click the icon in the task bar and untick all boxes in the connections menu before trying again. Why SE couldnt have forseen this problem is beyond me.

And I suggest that in future no one trys running new SE software without first taking some valium.

Okay I finally found this other highly relevant thread
http://www.esato.com/board/viewtopic.php?topic=111780&start=15

So I managed to click the icon bottom right of the screen, and click Properties and then untick the USB box as instructed in the thread.

This time I got a bit further... but still DISASTER!

I get to "Detection in Progress"
and then
"Selected Update P910 CDA162005/3"
looking promising but - BL**DY H*LL! - the damned thing gets to "Error - the update process failed - Unknown Error"

What should I do now?
Format the whole phone or something?!

Okay this time I exited out of my anti-virus software (because I remember about 18months ago my McAfee seemed to fight like bloody crazy with SE software).

But still no further than that message "Unknown error".

PANTS.

Ah okay I managed to get to the end. FINALLY. That's after about 5 hours. Thanks SE. :[

Answer: I was told to install PC Suite 3.2 last time I was here (several months ago). Well I got suspicious because the SE website only mentioned v 3.1.1 so I uninstalled v3.2 and re-installed PC Suite 3.1.1. And finally it seems to have installed CDA162005/3 onto my P910i.

WHAT A HASSLE.

Why could SE just tell us to untick the USB tab from within the software - or even on their website. I mean dont they actually READ what their users are actually SAYING?!

[VERY DEEP SIGH]

with thanks

I totally agree. Why didnt SE realise that many users would be using PCSuite in conjuction with the new update ap? Madness. I wonder just how many hundreds/thousands of their customers have now given up trying to update not realising there is an incompatibility issue here that SE obviosly should have forseen.

It really is astonnishingly arrogant. SonyEricsson simply doesnt bother to listen in on any of their customers... in the only official place for customers to talk about them. ASTONNISHING!

Strangely enough it reflects badly across the whole Sony brand - an it's such a shame because when these P910i things with flip lids first came out they were the absolute dog's nuts!

Who would have thought that - after litterally millions and millions of dollares spend developing the hardware that a little thing like sub-normal updating and synching software, plus the manufacturer not bothing to listen to customers TRYING TO HELP would ruin such a promising product.

What ARROGANCE!

No wonder Sony are on the slide generally, if they have attitudes like that!
