Ok its too early for this as the phone is not yet released but I feel from what I read at various sites & the specs that this is not what a P series lover wanted. Following are the reasons why I feel so:
1) !st & foremost I loved the basic concept, i.e. flip with no.s & open flip with screen only...this was the base design since p800 & I loved it
2) what I was looking for is a major features upgrade & change & minor elegant touches, I feel they could have given a bigger screen instead of qwerty & even leap ahead to a vga resolution
3) More memmory & faster device overall for newer & bigger applications
These are the basic thing might add few later but I feel cheated of my beloved Pxxx series by this change, is it me or...

you don't go into too much detail but I can see you are somewhat dissapointed.
Having followed the many wishlist threads we've had since the P910 came out (and there have been many) I feel

has delivered most of what was asked for.
I'm not going to second guess the device until I have had a good play with it for a week or so. My experience with it so far is just 45 minutes at a show which is no where near enough to fully comment but I got a good feeling about the P990 from that short time and I think many current P series owners will be very happy, and it will also convert some other smartphone users too

I'm gonna find it a hard to resist this phone. So far I've not seen a smartphone small enough AND with all the features I want to entice me into that market. I've been happy with my K700, then after that the superb K750. But the P990 *may* entice me into accepting the larger handset, simply due to the fact it is modernised in those areas the P910 has been severely lacking for a while now.

The problem is that someone wants some of the bits that someone else doesnt want.

thats slightly different to how I know that expression
you can please some of the people some of the time, but you can't please all of the people all of the time
but yes, that does about sum it up

Hi wivek,
I believe SE addresses your point number 3 for more memory and faster device overall...
P990i comes with 80MB C: drive (for installing apps) and 64MB active RAM (for apps to use when they are started) which is almost doubled of P910i. It uses Philips Nexperia 4008 application processor running at at least 208Mhz as compared to P910i's 156Mhz. Also to note is that Nexperia comes with hardware assisted MP4 encoding/decoding, mobile 3D OpenGL, etc etc, meaning processor power is not too much of an issue when comes to multimedia capabilities, unlike P910i.
The only problem may be start up speed of office applications, like web browser, quick office, etc...
Cheers

They don't call it "C:", do they?
By "active RAM", are you referring to its removable storage? You can install apps on the MS Duo Pro, can you not? I'm sure I could do that on my P900, back in the day.

Totally agree on that one. Plus, why make a fuzz when you haven't even played with it yet?

No, "active RAM" is the memory used by apps while they are actually running. This is quite separate from the internal storage (or "C:" drive) and external media (the MS Duo). You are right in that apps can be installed on either the internal or external storage, but in either they case still need internal RAM in which to run - and regardless of how much internal or external storage you have, application performance depends on how much of that internal RAM is free.
In PC terms, think of the internal storage as the hard drive, the memory stick as a (large) external disk, and the "active RAM" as the memory installed physically inside the computer.

Hi,
They call it internal memory, which is C: drive to some of us

P910i has got about 50MB at boot time (14MB taken away by OS and pre-installed apps, Z: drive takes up 32MB, making it a total of 96MB). P990i has got 128MB and OS + probably Z: drive, pre-installed app, etc takes away about 48MB, leaving about 80MB for us to install apps.
Active RAM means the amount of Random Access Memory available for apps to use when they are launched, much like your PC RAM, which is needed by all applications when you launced them. This is volatile memory. It is not the external MS Pro/Pro DUO card which you had described. P910i has got about 22MB at boot time (10MB taken up by OS and built in apps like SMS, Phone app, ect making it a total of 32MB), and P990i will at least have 48MB or more at boot time (expected 16MB taken up by OS and built in apps like SMS, Phone app, etc making it a total of 64MB)
