> Nokia's 3G: 6650 - The pics!
Bookmark topic
So, Nokia has launched its latest and their first 3G phone, the 6650.
Check out
www.mobil.se for the latest...as always!
By the way, looks as though we're back in the early 90's now in terms of the design at least. Talktime is a mere 2 hours....not much to talk about!
What do you think?

It think it sucks, both in design and features...
or have I missed something??
External antenna!!?? what´s this....
No expansion memory cards??
No touchscreen?
Hey, if SE would "covert" the P800 to 3G it would be the outstanding Nokia-killer all time!

It would look better without the antenna. The design on the back is a little strange. I do like it (but its nokia, I don't think I will buy one)

That bluetooth headset thing, was discussed in a thread about a week ago, one ugly looking headset isn't it. I did not notice how fat it looks.

Floberg:
Ericsson got rid of external antennas last year only for Europe phones, long after Nokia...

At least the SE, Ericsson phones in US almost all have external antennas. And T39 is still being sold btw...
What do you mean by it sucks in features???? I don't really understand.
Anyway I'm surprised to see all these supposedly technology freaks in this forum who claim to love technology (and thereby justify their purchase of SE phones), attack hypocritally this new Nokia phone which is the world's first dual-mode GSM/WCDMA phone and which offers a LOT. I thought you liked technology (regardless of the phone brand)... or maybe you're not being honest with your opinions. But nevermind.

The 6650 is not out on the market for a long time! thefore you can not say that it is the first 3G phone!
Regarding the design: It really disapointed me! I hoped for a phone with bigger screen and flip like p800! What is nokia thinking????

I like the phone. I no longer buy nokia because I prefer the SE menu's (both ericsson and the SE colour menu's). The features are very good. Just, I have not had a nokia for about 2 years (the menu and bad experience's have stopped me from buying the handsets).

I didn't say it's the first 3G phone. Japanese have had FOMA phones for a while now, using WCDMA.... -and external antennas- But it is still definitely the world's first commercial dual mode GSM/UMTS phone. Yes I can say it, why not? And it's been demonstrated in public. It's the very first one
So you think 3G will bring you big touch screens without keypad or what?

No, you will still have different form factors, like for today's mobile phones.
Design wise, P800 and 6650 have different shape concepts. Yeah, a large touch screen could be nice (for those who like), but not in this category. P800 is good for who likes palm device and likes to use a PDA more than making phonecall. P800 design choice is to me at least very unpractical for a phone. Now, I'm not saying it's not a nice PDA-phone, it is actually quite nice, but it's different. And I do like much more the approach of the 6650: you can use it with one hand only, you don't need to hide it in something like a palm holder to protect the touch screen etc.

I think it's a huge dissappointment. I mean if people should upgrade to a 3G phone, the phone would have to provide some new great features.
It has color screen... wow.. not

By the time it will be released there will be lots of color phones. It's alot bigger than current phones. Ok so it supports GSM/W-CDMA, so what. I can not see people change say an Ericsson T68i, Nokia 7650, P800, Nokia 3510i.
It has crappy talk times, only wap 1.2.1 and it looks really ugly and old...(ok taste is different...).
Anyway the 3G phones have to be way better than this.
Actually this kind of proves the theory about Nokia trying to get people dissapointed about 3G, so they will continue using 2G (GSM) where Nokia has almost 40% of the market. If people don't upgrade to 3G phones Nokia can continue to have 40% market share. They will probably not keep that market share when all Asian manufacturers start shipping cheap 3G color phones with features that are way ahead of the Nokia ones.
Have you seen the Nokia commercials where a girl is watching a movie on her phone in the bus. That won't happen in years (to low bandwith and to expensive) and Nokia knows that. That may be another way to get people dissapointed about 3G when they can't use the phone for that.
I don't know but with the release of this phone I think that it might be true...
