so the walkman phones are able to play .acc and .m4a files. so i thought i should try some .m4a compression instead of the .mp3 compression.
im using dbpoweramp to convert. so in the encoding menu;quality, theres VBR and ABR. so theres quality VBR from 100 to 500 and 152kbps ABR.
any kind of help would be appreciated ;]

I suggest using iTunes to import. It's a no-brainer to use.

96k m4a is about same as 128k mp3 in quality,thats how u save the space. I use 80kbps now in my w800i.

I think boyi is right. 96k m4a has almost the same quality with 128k mp3! I used to convert 128k mp3 to 96k m4a and play it on my k750i.
Maybe the trick here is we don't listen the music from mobile phones using or attached to large or "boom-boom" speakers. We usually listen music thru headphones/headsets that comes with it!
So, you may never feel any difference on the quality of mentioned formats!

what do u guys use to convert your audio files?
I used dbpoweramp.
http://www.nocomply.net/ultra[....]'s%20-%20Uprocking%20Beats.m4a
http://www.nocomply.net/ultra[....]'s%20-%20Uprocking%20Beats.mp3
the m4a is converted at 96kbps whilst the mp3 is at 128kbps
the audio quality is slightly noticeable. its obvious the mp3 with 128kbps has better quality.

If you convert a 128kbps mp3 file to a 96kbps mp4 then naturally there is a loss. There would also be a loss if you converted a 128kbps mp3 to 384kbps mp4, point being everytime you convert an allready compressed file there will be a loss nomatter the bitrate or filesize.
Theres nothing gained by further compression of allready compressed files other than samller filesize at the cost of equally lower soundquality.
The comparison 96kbps mp4 sound as good as 128kbps is when you rip straight from the same source CD to either 96kbps mp4 and/or 128kbps mp3, but since 96kbps is more compressed you will have a smaller filesize.

I know what you are talking about, but you dont
.mp4 is not video
.mp4 is a container, it can contain either an AAC audiotrack, or an mpeg4 videotrack or both. Mp4 is the official standard fileextension
.m4a is no standard, it is just Itunes nonstandard fileextension for mp4 containers containing aac audio. A standard mp4 container with aac compressed audiotrack. Rename an m4a file to mp4 and you get the exact same thing. An .mp4 file will be reckognized by the phone as either audio or video, depending if it contain only an audiotrack or a videotrack.
