Ive searched the forum and couldnt find the answer hence im making a new post
This question really goes out to people that are currently testing the p990
I was just wondering currently for my p900 i have to have my desktop stand and sony software for transferring files from my computer to phone,
what i was wondering is with the p990 could i get it so that it acts as a storage medium for my work and documents, so when i goto uni all i need is a cable from phone to USB port to get my stuff off the phone and no software, this way i can get the phone to act as a large memory stick

Yes, from the reviews I have seen of the initial reviews. Take a look at the UIQ3 forum at

Technically, that isn't essential. All you need is a card reader and you can then copy stuff straight to your Memory Stick (and from there, if necessary, to the phone itself). Here's one:

Just get the card reader I refer to above and you're sorted!

or if your in the uk, get the card reader from tesco, its only £2 (it doesnt say it supports "pro" memory sticks on the pack but it does - works with my 1gb card)

Umm, I don't want to carry a card reader around... wasn't the whole point of convergance to minimize the stuff I had to stick in a bag?

Yes but ... have a look at the one I've linked to above ... it's barely bigger than the MS itself! And surely if you're going to be carrying a cable anyway, it's really nothing extra.

Yes the P990 can be used as a mass storage device. Look here:

It's a quote by the guy (Michal Jerz) at the my-symbian forum who's tested the P990:
BTW. P990 supports mass storage via USB. Just connect the cable and voila! the phone is visible in Windows as a drive letter without any software. I love it!

[quote]USB Plug and play
When you connect your PC to your P990i, your phone’s Memory Stick PRO Duo™ appears as a removable disk along with other disks and drives. You can then quickly and easily drag and drop items between folders. Images, documents, music and video.[/qoute]
