About unlocking mobile phones.
Unlocking mobile phones from your current subscriber/service provider is illegal. If you want your phone unlocked, please contact your operator directly. Posts where you ask how to do this will be deleted. If you are in doubt whether your unlocking question is OK to post on Esato, then it probably is not. Ask one of the moderators if you are in doubt.
I read this after hitting the replay button and i have ONE question!
Unlocking mobile phones from your current subscriber/service provider is illegal. If you buy a phone you can do whatever you want with it! even throw it in the water opebn it up bite it and pjuuk on it and even putt a datacable and moddyfy your software is your phone!

by unlocking a phone you break the terms of condition between you and the network operator... this since you have agreed to use the phone on their network a certain period of time...

It is not ilegal either in Spain.
As a matter of fact there are plenty of shops that do it and there is no problem about it.

It is not illegal in India either. But where the contract specifically states that you should not unlock it for a certain period (usually one year), then you should not - but many people still do.
But this is where the twist comes. It is the duty of the operators/service providers to unlock your phone when the term is over. But they
don't do that. Instead they hold you and your phone as hostage and charge you ridiculous amount to unlock it. And I guess this is the reason why people unlock it themselves and break the contract agreements.
Considering that Esato caters to global audience and where legal laws change from country to country , I guess it should let us post about 'unlocking phones' without hinderance. This is just my opinion and I guess moderators have their own views.

That dosent make it iligeal because the network dosent own your phone! If you throw your phone outh of the top of Oslo Plaza! Before a year have past then you break the law because you must use your phone to your network for a hole year! But you cant do that after you throow it down Oslo Plaza before a year have past!

hmmm...
the network technically owns part of your phone, because the network paid part of the phone, that's why its cheaper compared to the "sim-free"
$400- sim-free
$150-$250 for sim-locked (providers paid around $250-$150 of it)
simply contact your network and let them unlock it at the end of the contract.
does it make sense?
or just dont buy a sim-locked phone

Don't want to be MrCensorship here. General questions about unlocking are welcome, but to ask for help for doing illegal stuff should not be tolerated. As Wings_Talons pointed out, some operators charge a huge amount of money to do this even if the contract has ended. These members should be able to find answers to their questions on Esato. But I think the majority of people unlocking their phone do this before the contract has ended.
Esato, like many online stores selling unlocking equipment want to avoid lawsuits and getting a bad reputation because we are letting visitors posts illegal content.
If you read the disclaimer part on the web site to a online store for unlocking hardware
http://www.one-stop-unlock.com/ , you'll find that they don't offer their service to users in the UK:
1.We cannot take any responsibility in relation to the use of our products that may be considered illegal.
2. All Purchasers should check all relevant laws applicable to the Area/State/Country relating to the use of the items contained within these pages.
3. All manufacturers trade names are for reference use only and are in no way connected to our products.
4. We do not promote or endorse the illegal use of our products.

Okay laffen i understand.
but is it illigeal to drive a car over your sim locked mobile before the network contract has ended?
I mean if you agree to use there network for a year then you cant drive over it? Or throw it in Akerselva that day you get really pissed of at the person you are talkin to on your phone

its not illegal nor does it break the terms and cond of any subscriber if you want your fone unlocked you can ask them and they will do it at a charge, orange charge bout £30 but if you ask them they will prob tell you it would be cheaper in a local mobile fone shop, an also when you take out a contract and you only pay say around £100 for a fone which sim free would cost you say £350 this is because your still paying for it during the year an if u break the 12 month agreement then they can and will ask for the fone back only after 12 months the fone is truly yours to give away or sell and to prove this those of you with a contract sell your fone use another for a short while then ring your provider and tell them you sold the fone and the one you are using no longer works, they will charge you so i hope this answers your questions
