Nokia has filed for a patent for a cameraphone that would instantly alert the authorities in the case of your being abducted.Basically, the phone would look like its off, but by hitting a recessed panic button, you’d be able to send an emergency alert with images, sound and even a GPS location.

If reception is lost, for instance if an abductor drives into an underground car park, the phone stores images and audio in memory and automatically transmits them as soon a signal is regained."

You guys really think is a good idea?
What are you gonna say to the abductors: "Smile, you're on candid camera" ?!?!?!
What are the chances of you being able to hit the panic button when being held at gun point...? Or while struggling trying to get away...?

Oh its simple, once you're bound, gagged, and flung in the boot of the car, you simply wangle the paperclip you keep in your shoe for these situations into your mouth, unfold it, then insert into the recess in the phone that you've dug out of your left pocket using nothing but your right elbow.

Ding-Dang-Doo, jobs a good 'un!

and the police will be able to work out your location with images from the boot and the velocity time the pie of the tangent ratio cubed gravity.

Trogdor, not wanting to deviate from topic here, but I just have to say - respect to that name, my friend.

TROGDOOOOOOOOOOOOOR.

I'm torn with this new 'phone.' I think victorh017 had it pretty close with his post. Schemes like this pray on paranoia, I wonder how much of a practical use it might have? It almost reminds me of a fly-trap-style invention last year, designed to painfully deter rapists - the only drawback was that women had to constantly 'wear' the device on the off chance that they were raped that day.

In the case of this phone, I feel that the hindrance outweighs the practicalities of the situation.
