Guys please help... I just got a P910i and I need to use it to connect back to the office via a dial up connection. I cannot get the phone to work as a modem. I set up the Sony serial modem on the PC but cannot connect to it via "query modem" in diagnostics. It is set up on COM1 on the pc.

Any help greatly appreciated.

Greetings, not sure that i have a clue what i am doing so take what i say with a pinch of salt. Although i managed to connect, i have never managed to connect at higher than 9,600kbps on my dial-up line/ISP....it was not worth it,far to slow.

I am connecting via the syncstation. Set the phone to modem with the correct settings - these match the settings for the modem on the PC. Message from PC is "no response from modem- make sure it is switched on etc". I ran the software update from the SE site but my phone has the most up-to-date software. Also downloaded the up-to date version of PC suite.

Tearing my hair out for a solution.

I doubt very much that it will be COM1 that you need to use

The sync station is plugged into the USB port and when you did this first time it would have created a virtual COM port

now, I'm telling you this from memory as its been a while since I had a P series but hopefully it will guide you in the right direction.

in the system tray is the syncstation icon (a sort of squiggly line). If you right click that and choose options or possibly its properties then somewhere in there you can see a list of COM ports and also the USB port. against the USB listing will be its virtual COM port assignment and I believe it is that COM port you should assign against the modem in the control panel

hope that helps!

that sounds like good advice. How do I switch the com port for the modem to the port used by the syncstation on the USB cable??

Success guys...

the problem was with the com ports. The syncstation was initially setup as COM4. However, when setting up the modem the only option provided by windows was COM1.

I set up a second modem and this time I got the option to install to COM4.

I then deleted the 1st modem on the PC and everything worked fine.

Thanks for all the help and suggestions.

thats great. I was going to suggest right clicking the modem where you get a "duplicate" option and it offers you all the COM ports available again but reinstalling is just as good

its nice to see a success!
