> Screensaver activation removes area Information
Bookmark topic
When I activate 'Cell Information', messages -> area info -> cell information to on, the area dialling code comes up on the main screen. After the screen saver has been on and then knocked off, the area information disappears, although still being switched on in the menu. Anyone know why it disappears? Why is it used anyways? What does it do?

Thats normal. It will come back up under the network name when you press a key and the phone wakes up from the screen saver or the clock.
In other words, it only comes on at the same time as the Network name.

No that's what I mean, when the network comes back onto the screen, after knocking the screensaver off, the code disappears completely, so the screen just has the UK Vodafone and battery info, and signal indicator displayed!... why?

I am on UK Vodafone and sometimes that happens to me as well. When it does, I switch the Cell information off, and then turn it back on again. But I have not been bothered to find out why it switches off after a while. I would think there is some kind of automatic switching off the area code by Vodafone automatically or something of that sort.

is it of any use anyways? Does Vodafone UK use this for anything in particular?

I dont think its of any significant use anyway. It can be useful if unsure about the local dialing code. Other than that, I cannot see any particular use for it. I don't think Vodafone use it for anything. Its just a minor service provided by Vodafone to its subscribers.

Yeh voda use cell info display - as you said it shows the local dialling code area u r in - such as 0207/8 for london - ages ago they used to have 'local' talkplans - when u dialled a number in your local area eg 0207 & u were in the same area it was reduced rate or something like that - I think it also gave discounted calls to the other local areas surrounding your dialling code - like BT freinds & family- it's usefull if u get lost aswell!!
