I have downloaded convertors for movies, but I have no movies to convert and DVDs and VCDs do not show up on my computer or are corrupted. Any ideas or help?

maybe that movie convertor do not recognize the movie format in your hard drive or in a dvd or vcd?

what's that convertor anyway?

First make sure you have the correct drivers for your DVD drive, then download the K-Lite codec pack, this will enable your drive to recognise VCD's as for the DVD's, ensure you have some DVD playing software, try this Freeware one.
