Hey, bought a w900i the other day, in black, (think i stlll prefer my p910i) and all is well, but when i receive an sms , only 4-5 seconds of a 4 minute mp3 is played, then it cuts off. doesnt matter what tone i set, always the same. Im sure the other day the full tone played right through, but i was half asleep. Is this normal, or have i ticked the wrong box on something??

Any help would be great

No it is right. They are limited to a certain amount of time. I always cut down my MP3s so that they are just the best bit for msgs.

Newer models cut the alert tones to 9 seconds. I use Audacity to cut the best parts of my mp3's to 9 second clips to use as ringtones.

I have a P910i, K750i, W800i and a W900i. All of them still has the original firmware because I never saw the need to update.

My point is this...
...all those phones never played a whole MP3 song whenever I get a text message.

why the hell would you want a 4minute mp3 as a message alert anyway!?

Same here.

What would be the point of having it play a full song everytime you receive a new message ?

I often text chat, meaning i get sms messages every minute or so. It would be a little silly listening to a song constantly playing for ages and ages whilst doing that, aswel as highly annoying for others around you.

I also don't like long message alert tones.

But I'm also questioning the claim that the P910 and K750 plays a whole MP3 when set as an alert tone. My P910i plays the MP3 alert tone a few seconds longer, but it still doesn't go through the whole song.

Hey,

I just nedd a long tone for work. My p910i an k750 had no problem with this, not sure why its not the same on the rest of your guys phones. It plays right through when i get an mms on my w900i. Think i may go back to my p910, i just cant get used to it, having buttons and all as its been p800/p900/p910/w900i
