hi, my brother recieved this usual scam email a few days ago and recieved the cheque for £900 and has gone to cash it as me or my mum could get through to him how stupid it is, he isnt going to send the cash to the other guy or send out the equipment but wants to see what will happen when he trys to cash the cheque.
Thanks for your correspondence and for the briefing about the equipment,i'm impressed .I,m in urgent need of the equipment.I will take it for 545pounds Lets seal a deal at that price.Consider the equipment already sold to me.
I would have love to come down and inspect it but i'm presently away to Holland on a seminar.
As i saw your advert ,i had to get across to one of my business associates in england telling him i've got the equipment i'm searching for and that he should make my funds 900pounds available in payment of some fuel equipments i supplied to him.
He assured me he would make the payments (check) available.I would instruct him to get the check across to you (ASAP) and as soon as you receive the payments i would want you can get it cashed immediately. As soon as you are through with this you would
need to deduct your amount of 545pounds from the total and send
the balance of 345 pounds+ to my reputable shipper via western union money transfer who would be coming over for the pickup of the equipment and also handle the necessary transfer titles on my behalf once the check is cleared. my shipper will need to have the money in due time for their as payment of their services.
So i will need your Full Name,Mailing Address And Phone Number so i can send it to him {my associate} to send the payment right away.My shipper (Today's Shipping)
would be responsible for the pick up. hope to hear from you.Just let me know it is ok by you and give me the go ahead, you'll get the payment right away.I await your response.
Best regards,
ted norlan.
What do you think will happen and is there any danger in my brother cashing the cheque, thanks guys

Depends how he cashes it. If he tries to pay it into his bank account, it'll simply bounce or the bank will eventually find out that it's stolen (if it is indeed stolen). If either of those happens, there will be no comeback on your brother apart from maybe the bank will ask to see the correspondence between the scammer and himself.
If he cashes it at one of these 'instant cash' places and actually recieves the money, then the place where he cashed it will be after him as soon as the cheque bounces or gets refused! They might even involve the police which, whilst it's unlikely that your brother would get into serious bother, would certainly result in a lot of inconvenience.
The only danger would be if he admitted that he knew it was a scam but cashed the cheque anyway. If anything does happen, tell him to feign ignorance!

i guess itll be smart to keep all them emails and letter packaging and everything that involves this 'scam' just incase the police get involved, theres nothing to worry about really, it just looks like youre falling for it when your realy giving it a go?who knows, maybe a fake check all part of a new type of scam?
