Is the P800 a mobile phone or a PDA? Does
think of this model as a PDA? I know that it's Sony Ericsson that make the phones now and not Ericsson, but with the
models we have seen so far, the name policy used come from Ericsson and not Sony.
Found this in a newsgroup post from 1999:
I recently read something in a mobile phone magazine about Ericsson's new ART-system and how they divide all their phones into three categories, A, R and T and why they chose exactly those three letters and so forth. Ericsson also revealed why there are so many 8's in the model-numbers of new phones, such as T18s, T28s, R380... It was amazing to see how much research was put in carefully selecting the name of each phone in order to invoke certain associations amongst people when they see or hear the name of the phone. For those of you who did not read the article I can say that *nothing*, absolutely *nothing*, is left for fate to decide when a new Ericsson phone is designed. Absolutely *nothing* is randomly chosen.

Yeah! I noticed that with the "8" thing a long time ago when I had my 388 (or was it 788? can't remember). That's cos in chinese, the number 8 is considered very lucky and auspicious. It is a sign or prosperity.
Maybe they had some chinese on their design team?

R600 and T100 breaks this pattern. I think it should have been A600 and A100.

Hehehe, that's good! Perhaps they represent different market segments such as consumer, business, and high-end. That would be typical for an electronics manufacturer...

I would say P stands for professional..since P800 is mainly target at those professional businessman........who love to have a PDA and phone in one........
