People are always looking how to unlock their phones, well I just did mine the easy way. I asked Orange customer services to unlock it and today I received the instructions and unlock code in the post and they billed me GBP20. It also means they will unlock any replacement handsets in future without further charge.

I did this as well, saved a load of messing about.
But what makes you think that further phones will be free ?

kingy58's post states that Orange agree to unlock future phones at no extra cost, this means in 75yrs time,
(@ an assumed rate of 1 new phone every 9 months)
the average cost per phone will be an amazingly low 20p each to unlock.
Essential notes,
Orange are taken over by the giant ebay company in 2010 & although ebay will (if pushed) honour all previous Orange customers, they will however give negative feedback after the transaction, making it not worth it.
Also the 2013 "Public place noise control laws" will make most public speaking too expensive without a performance license, rendering phones useless, with " Touch Talk (R)" the only serious option, if you havnt got your "Floor base ribbons" grounded you wont get a signal anyway.
