Hey all,

Asking here as it's the bigest forum I know, and people actualy help and don't call ya n00b

Basically, would this motherboard work with this CPU:

http://www.amdcompare.com/us-[....]/details.aspx?opn=OSA148DAA5BN

http://www.ebuyer.com/custome[....]X292ZXJ2aWV3&product_uid=98339

Would they work together OK?

Been here since about 11pm trying to find out and just not getting anywhere.

Thanks alot

It won't work, Opteron CPUs are socket 940 whereas the board you chose is a socket 939.

Asus do a 940 motherboard, the SK8N, or alternatively you could go for a socket 939 Athlon 64 or FX CPU instead.

Your Opteron processor is socket 939? Are you sure? Either way, I'd check out the manufacturer's site of any board you plan to buy to make sure it's compatible with Opteron processors, I'm pretty sure that the one on ebuyer isn't.

Yep i'm sure

It's the 3rd one down on here:

I checked the mobo site and, well it was useless really, didn't have any info.

Dunno what to do hehe, need a mobo which supports the chip but just cant find what one.

Thanks for the help

Blimey, I thought they were all 940!

If it's 939 then I can see no reason why it wouldn't work. Just out of interest, is there any particular reason why you need an opteron processor rather than an A64 or FX?
