Why are UMD's called (Universal Media Disks),when they can only be played on PSP's?..till date there has been no other device on the market for which to play these on,no suprise then that, most hollywood studios are cutting back on all future film releases on this format..sometimes i think sony lives its own little bubble and does'nt realise whats going on outside...All sony has to do is to open up this format to other players and recording devices for it to be a success...or maybe they should just change the name to PSPONRMD (PSP ONLY NON-RECORDABLE MEDIA DISK!

Or maybe it accepts all kinds of data too .. hence universal
ZIP disks after all didn't have a zip on them or come with WinZip.

So whats the point of having the ability of storing different types of data and yet only be able to use one form of that data in only one type of device...don't make sense?

Apparently Sony are to start making media devices such as DVD Players but UMD Players or an integration of both.
Just a wild guess but why else call it UMD ?

Vein: It would be nice if sony did make umd integrated dvd players or stand alone ones....i dont see the point of spending £20 on a umd movie then only to be able to watch it on my psp...if sony wants longevity in this format its going to have to open up the format a whole lot more.

Sony should make an adapter which lets you plug your psp into your tv, that way you can use the psp as a stand alone umd player.
