I've just sold a K700i as part of my T68i to W800 experiment, and it has gone to a zero rated and recently joined Ebayer in France. Now, this person has paid via Paypal fairly quickly, but I'm a little worried about chargebacks.

I might be being a bit paranoid, but I'm worried that this person will do a chargeback to get their money back after recieving the phone. How do chargebacks work, and is it possible for someone to scam me after paying money into my Paypal account. Is there a way to avoid chargebacks, i.e. by spending the money, or withdrawing it to my bank account?

Yes, stop using PayPal.

Make sure you use a fully traceable delivery method. If you don't, and the buyer claims non-delivery, you will automatically loose.

Emptying you account won't really help as PP will take it next time money goes in to it.

I'm planning to use a traceable service, will send it International Signed-For.

What's wrong with Paypal? I know it's not 100% secure but what other options are there?

I hate paypal now, people seem to be putting in bogus complaints and are getting back 100% of therie money inc postage!

this week i sent a item on monday, and the person has already set up a complaint by saturday, emailed me and told me they had done it (after i had paypals email) and told me they wouldnt wait for the rm's 14 days thing, and also said they wanted a full refund, but my terms said I cannot retrn poostage, im sorry but that is nice cheek, they agree to the conditions (on the listing it says by bidding you agree to the above conditions) and decided to try to bum me over as they waited 6days, they probally have it and want a refund cause their cheapskate bastards. I would just not accept paypal, but it the problem is the items go for less.

There is no way of stopping the chargebacks, but if any item is sent recorded it is better.

Does sending the item recorded reduce the risk of chargebacks? I guess it leaves you with evidence you sent the item, and that it was recieved, and gives you a certain amount of cover.

You cannot include unreasonable terms in your listings.

And you say you are not responsible for items lost or damaged in the post - you are.

yeh, well I myself use prrof of posting on any item under 30, or ecorded and special over that, I think im just going to add a requirement and make sure all buyers pay a extra £1 for signed recorded delivery as im tired of people doing it. I have had 2 ppl complain in the last week because of such trivial things like this and I just think they want the money

Realistically you don't seem to have much of a choice but to use Paypal on Ebay, as without it you get less bids, and there's the risk of things like chargebacks with Paypal. Think I'll have to take the chance, trust this guy, and send the phone via International Signed For delivery!
