> More security problems bite Apple
Bookmark topic
Experts have uncovered a serious security bug in the way Apple software handles downloaded files.
The flaw could give malicious attackers a back door into Mac computers if users visit carefully crafted websites and download booby-trapped files.
Although no attackers were known to be exploiting the bug, experts said it was easy to write code to take advantage of the flaw.
Separately, three concept viruses for Apple computers have been discovered.
The reports of the flaw in OSX and the virus variants makes three security alerts for Apple in less than a week.

This one could potentially be quite harmful. So far its just a prrof of concept and Apple are already preparing a fix.
However, it is extremely easy to avoid:
In Safari Preferences >General > Uncheck 'Open "Safe" files after downloading'

Oh yay another common sense attack
Anyone that downloads should be scanning their files after they're downloaded and not automatically opening them anyhow.

in my opinion. these public 'announcements' actually inspire hackers and spreaders rather than help bring awareness. ESPECIALLY when they say things like SUPER VULNERABLE, YOU'LL GET YOUR ASS HACKED 'n STUFF.

Well, it's never gonna get as bad a Windows, where 100's of new viruses are discovered each week.
But the problem is, Apple gets a hugely disproportionate amount of media attention for its market share. So one virus discovered on the Mac is reported everywhere, whereas the Windows viruses aren't.
This could give people a false impression and change peoples perception of Macs security.
