I've just bought and will be recieving shortly a 6680 with a broken lcd. I have a dead 7610, whose screen seems to be OK. I believe the screen can be used in the 6680, but the 7610 is only capable of displaying 65k colours, whilst the 6680 is capable of 262k colours.

If I put the 7610 screen in the 6680, will it only be displaying 65k colours, or is the number of colours displayed a firmware issue, and the phone will work with 262k colours with that screen in? I've seen replacement screens on Ebay that describe the screen as being compatible with the 7610, 3230, 6630, 6680, etc.

Also, any update on whether these kinds of BB5 Nokias can be unlocked yet via code calculators? Will it be possible in the future, or indeed is it possible now without having to go to the operator and get them to unlock it for an astronomical fee?

Hey mate,

I believe the mainboard is what restricts the amount of colours used. I believe it should work fine

Cheers, that's what I'm hoping anyway! I'm hoping the phone isn't blocked or anything.

Think it's sim locked to 3, the next burning question is can they be unlocked, as they can't generally be unlocked via code generators and only via the service provider as far as I know - unless anyone knows any different?

Had a nasty feeling it would be expensive to unlock!

Not a major thing, though would've been nice to use it with my O2 contract sim. Guess I'll have to stick with my W800i hybrid!

Glad the 7610's screen can be used in a 6680 at 262k anyway!

Pretty good! Only problem is when connecting a headset to the phone it seems to stay in 'port h-free' mode when you take it out, even if you select another profile. Restarting the phone solves the problem though. Suspect it's a firmware issue related to flashing a K750i with W800 firmware!

Might make this thread into a dual topic, see if anyone know if any progress has been made on code calculators for unlocking these new BB5 Nokias. Was there a similar problem when the DCT-4 Nokias came out?

@R - was that post meant for here?

Just tried the screen in the 6680 - the connector is on the wrong side! Tried plugging it in anyway to see if the phone works, but the screen doesn't display properly.

I suspect something's wrong with the phone anyway - I can't get it to call out or in, don't know if it's blocked or has a signal problem

Waste of rather a lot of money if the bastard's blocked

I was sure the 7610 screen connector was on the right. Is the 6680s on the left mate? 6630 has a screen connector on right. I recieved an unlocked 6630 today. Sim free 2nd ive had and boy the 3g is fast lol.
