Ok here's a math question. I'll ask it in parts.
(it's a smart answer)
Three guys were where in a restaurant. They spent 30 pounds on drinks.
They each decided to pay 10 pounds even. So they gave the waiter 10 pounds each. The waiter went to the cashier who decided he wanted to get some loyal customers, and so he gave the waiter 5 pounds back and told him to give it to them as a discount.
On the way to the table, the waiter thought "let me make this even because dividing 5 by 3 is impossible". So he put 2 pounds in his pocket and returned 3.
So each of them had 1 pound back. How much did they end up paying in total?
edit: I'll back back to check up and post the next question.

they didnt get 1 bk each
Look got 5 back, waiter added 2 = 7, then took 3, = £4
So each = £1.33333....
so paid £8.66.... each

This is an old trick question. You're just confusing yourselves with the change and the water's share.
There are two sides: the customer and the restaurant -- don't mix them!
Customer side:
3 persons paid 10 pounds each and got 1 pound each back, i.e. they only paid 9 pounds each to the restaurant or a total of 27 pounds, while they have 3 pounds back with them.
(10-1) x 3 = 27
Restaurant side:
Cashier received 30 pounds and returned 5 pounds, i.e. Cashier only have 25 pounds.
Waiter took 2 pounds from the 5 pounds and returned only 3 pounds to the customer.
25 + 2 = 27
All in all, the restaurant have 27 pounds and the customers have 3 pounds.
27 + 3 = 30

what I was going to continue with is the following.
If they paid 10 each, received 1 back each, it means they each spent 9. Total 9 X 3 is 27 agreed?
The last 2 pounds is with the wait right? So where did the last 1 go?

that would be a trick of doubling, if you did this on your table, 1 pound wouldnt just disapear, the resaurant got £25, and gave the waiter £5, so its still £30, they gave the people £3 and he had £2, its still £30, its just a trick
