Rumour has it that Ericsson is trying to buy out Sony's stake in as a brand and have complete ownership of the merger.

I Don't have any more information regarding this thats all i currently know, but this does raise lots of interesting question, firstly one mainly being would Ericsson be any good without Sony's backing if this deal does go through?

This might all be nothing but just gossip but interesting though i think!

I might be unfair, i really don´t know.. but as far as i know Ericsson is really the "inventor" when it comes to the platform, so what they´d miss is perhaps design and certain Sony features like Walkman and Cybershot brand names.

I suppose but i think the name of sony give's a hell of alot of appeal in the market and the name consequently sell's more phones.

I never used to go for ericsson phone's but when they merged with sony it was a different story.

Yes i would very much agree with that.... ericsson without sony is like going back to the days of the dull/drab boring ericsson handsets.

But having said who's to know what this deals is all about?...since the rumour is about a complete buyout of

I can't possibly see how it would be in Sony's interest to do this. They've done the hardest part by making the partnership work, growing market share (albeit very slowly) and have now turned the corner into mass market products to compete with the big boys.
Mobile phones aren't going anywhere and as convergence becomes the big buzz word for the next decade (i.e. multi applications contained within one device), it would seem Sony are in the an ideal position to take the partnership forward.
Sorry, but makes no strategic sense to me at all.

In what way did Sony make "the hardest part"?

Hmmm... hard to believe.

It would be a stupid move by Ericsson, since SE is betting in the Walkman and Cybershot image.
Ericsson would probably have to drop those brandings, and would need to build up a completely new image.
