> Bluetooth all over the new SE phones

Does anyone remember the scare when Ericsson announced that it wouldn't invest in Bluetooth anymore? Lots of people thought they'd step out of BT, but look now, almost all of the newer handsets have Bluetooth, only the real budget models lack it.
Looks good. It might spur other manufacturers of phones and other stuff like laptops to pût it in everywhere also...

As I understud then Ericsson is not investing anymore in BT.... just selling licences ... it is developed and working quite nice!
No more BT v3 as there is allready Next step -> WiFi

If it physically doesn't take much or any room on the limted physical space availabe for the phone, it may remain as a "nice to have" for communication with older laptops and PDAs for quite some time.
i.e. You really don't have to sacrifice anything else with the phone in order to have it there, so why not keep it if it is useful at all.
At least for now. Once the older non-USB IR laptops and PDAs start really dying off (2 yrs? 5 yrs?) then it will almost certainly be dropped like a hot potato.

With the price of BT dongles dropping I doubt IR will see through another five years...if it's still around in 18 months I'd be suprised.

i'd prefer bluetooth over IR too, as you don't have to have "directly" connect with it. plus, i think it has a faster data transfer speed...

i think irda will be arround untill 2010.
main reason for phones to still have IRDA is that many people have a laptop with irda and they prefere that over buying a BT dongle. when new laptops come out with BT. irda can finnaly vanish from phones.

Cmon Brix...don't say that Yet...Ir-DA still is very much alive.....Can never be possible to replace good and cheap technology unless the price of the newer ones come down....A good BT is retailing for around 10-15 USD..but a IR-Da goes for around 2 USD...
