I have just been checking oout the Moto web site and it says the MP3 player on the V3i only supports 50 MP3’s is this true surely with a 1Gig Transflash card it will handle as many mp3’s as will fit on the card?

I have heard of this before. The ROKR was the same, for some reason Moto decided to put a limit of 50 tracks that the phone would recognise. I think it is because putting a full version of Itunes into the phones could harm Apples sales of the Ipod.

Thanks for this I guess the phone will be back on Ebay sooner rather than later, what an incredibly stupid limitation! I will advise as many people as possible.

does your V3i actually have itunes player on it? I have heard there are two version of V3i, one with the itunes player and one with Motorola Digital Audio Player.
My V3i had the Motorola Digital Audio Player though I did not try to put 50 MP3s on it.
My L7 also has the Motorola Digital Audio Player and I have just loaded up 160+ MP3s and they are playable without issue
The other interesting point is that connecting my L7 to my PC causes itunes software on the PC to startup whereas that didn't happen with my

Hi there not sure the phone has not arrived yet, will let you know when it does lets hope it hasnt got the I tunes stuff on it. I dislike the who I tunes concept it is highly restrictive, it is just the music industrys method of blocking any change to their business model, and is the sole reasoon Itunes built a million track database so quickly! and every person who buys an Ipod tightens their grip on the consumer, just goes to show, what dressing up old restrictive technology in nice clothes and sepnding millions on telling everyone its the "must have" player can do to your bottom line! only IMHO of course!

I did read something the other day, can't put my finger on it right now though, where it is possible to release another 50 bringing the limit up to 100
I vaguelly recall eading that some operators, in Asia I think, charged for that but so far no one has found a way to remove the 100 limit
google might give a bit more info about that or I'll see if I can find what I was reading

edit: mine is the iTunes version. ack.

the iTunes version seem to be the more restricting one... here in the Philippines the ones I've seen so far does not have the iTunes thingy on them, and comes with 128Mb memory...
of course, although the V3i is pretty slick, sporting a thin bod, I'd probably consider the pumped up V3x model over it instead as it already has a 2.0 megapixel cam not to mention 'tis already set for 3G (VGA cam on front), and it also comes with 128Mb memory...
