As a private pilot myself I have been avidly following the progress of the Airbus A380 abd yesterday the first built notched up its 1000th hour of flight.

here is a cool and interesting video showing a video of the 12-month manufacturing process of the Airbus A380 compressed into 7mins

Fascinating stuff! Nice video.

It's the biggest passenger plane in the world now, larger and carries more passengers than the previous biggest, the Boeing 747

Initial publicity stressed the A380's space and comfort, allowing for relaxation areas, bars, duty free shops and the like. The only A380 customer likely to use this configuration is Virgin Atlantic, which has a bar in Business Class on most of its newer airliners and announced plans to include casinos on their A380s. Similar items were proposed in the past when large aircraft were announced, but airlines have always opted for more seats to lower ticket costs. Given the history of the airline industry, the A380 will significantly expand the improvements that the 747 made—more seats and lower seat-distance costs - while providing wider seats and better amenities. With 555 passengers, the A380 represents a 35% increase over the 747-400 in standard three-class configuration, along with a nearly 50% larger cabin volume - meaning much more space per passenger.

All the luxuary is too much I think, I rather enjoy a longer stay in a nicer hotel than have those 1st class seat for some hours ... but each to their opinion.

those pics are sales mock-ups from Airbus to show what is possible. I remember Boeing had similar mock-ups when the 747 was first being announced and sold

I suspect most carriers will use the space for fare paying passengers although Virgin are having a proper bar and I heard also a mini casino, and will offer a few proper beds too.

although its expected that most carriers will configure to an average 555 passengers its amazing to think that 800-odd are possible!

Qantas are a launch partner and I'm flying home back to Oz in a couple of weeks and would love to be going in one of these... guess I'll hav to wait until next year though
